I understand your anger, Avatar. But, look at it this way: both majorities are gone, regardless of what happens in Montana and Virginia; the Independents are Liebermann and a self-described SOCIALIST, for God's sake. And don't forget the Arlen Specter factor - how that guy rates an R after his name is beyond me. What I'm saying is that House conservatives didn't get singled out for punishment - they got caught in the gears. There's a war on; these poor guys were collateral damage.

Ok, first off, the Republicans needed a wake-up call. I regret that it came at this price, but the Republicans have practically been trying to lose. They abandoned their conservative base. They often sided with Democrats on their ultra-leftist issues. The Republicans needed to remember why they won in 1994 and who they owe that victory to.

This isn't anything new, Avatar. The Bushes are merely the heirs of Rockefeller Republicanism - a cynical force for globalism that finds paying lip service to conservatives a convenient means to its own greedy ends. Our party has been infected for a long time. This war has been coming for forty years or more. I, for one, welcome it.

You're assuming that there are conservatives in office that are helping us. They we're in a position of power to do some real good, instead they squandered it.

Moderate Republicans may have helped the GOP get a congressional majority, but they also adversely affected the GOP in this election. They are just as much spenders, as any democrat.

This elections was truly a message to the GOP, not message to/for the democrats.

The American people had high expectations with the Newt G. "thing", and what do we have for all of this? Yes, some lower taxes..........and then what?

I still think that we should have invaded Iraq, but there was some mis-handling of it up to now. I truly believe that the U.S. should have immediately divided Iraq up into three distinct states within the nation: A Kurdish state, a Sunni State, and a Southern State that included Bagdad.

I voted a straight Repub. ticket yesterday, but deep down in my "gut" I felt that this was truly going to be a wake-up call to the GOP, that they have drifted too much to the center. I'd rather that the GOP be stomped in an election because they were conservative, than be stomped for losing their moorings, or principles.

Notice one big difference from the previous elections. You won't see or hear of Conservative voters both prominent and non-prominent, running to their psychiatrists, or relinquishing their U.S. citizenship in mass as happened after Sen. Kerry's defeat in 04 with liberal/demo voters/backers.

Seems to me that we're probably going to see the Republican party shift to the center. Despite what you all are saying, a lot of Republicans in the House pushed some very conservative measures (border fence, English as the official language, flag burning, etc.) and now a lot of these politicians are gone. I'd expect to see more people like Gulliani (the closest thing either party has to a real libertarian) and McCain in the coming elections. Then again, right now we might actually see the Republican party in the House shift to the right. A lot of the more moderate Republicans like Chris Shays and company were voted out in favor of conservative democrats. The remaining Republicans are likely to be closer to conservative values. Unfortunately for them, without control of either House they're not going to get anything done, and come 08 I bet we'll see a resurgence of moderate Republicans.

A big reason some Dems won in Texas is because of the Trans Texas Corridor, where the neocons have indeed sold us out. The SA Toll Party got some of their top endorsements elected, Nathan Macias(R) for district 73, Joe Farias(D) for district 118 and David Leibowitz(D) for district 118. Gov. Perry(R, incumbent) won the governorship but did so with less than 40% of the vote because of the Anti-toll movement (Strayhorn).
The SA Toll Party is fighting against this double-taxation, land grabbing monster that they will NOT put on a ballot for us to vote on for ourselves.
