The U.N. and the International Red Cross are the organizations that have documented the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and the statements by the U.S. and European governments are quoted from their reports. Gazans are not "starving;" they are being "strangled."

But if you are a supporter of Israel, the point that should really concern you is: the blockade has accomplished *none* of the Israeli government's stated goals - it's doing nothing to weaken or dislodge Hamas, it has not stopped rockets, and it has not freed Shalit.

In fact, all it has done is collectively punish 1.5 million people in Gaza, and make Hamas more popular than ever.

So despite the Israeli government's attempt to keep defending the blockade, it's done the opposite of making Israel safer. It has seriously damaged Israel's own interests - its international standing, and vital alliances with countries in the region such as Turkey.

Even Israel's own Foreign Ministry advised the Netanyahu administration *not* to conduct a raid in international waters.

It's kind of ironic, but it's Israel's own actions in the botched Flotilla raid that will force the end of the Gaza blockade (at least in its present form.) The E.U. has already called on Israel to stop it, Egypt has now opened the border "indefinitely" to limited passenger traffic, and the Obama administration has stated that the blockade is "untenable."
