My favorite team, the middle school soccer team I coach, won yesterday 4 to 2!
According my assistant, the opposing team had been joking and bragging amongst themselves about how bad they would beat my team before I arrived. The other coach even asked me about beating another team in our league and was excited that his play-off hopes were still alive...I guess he assumed he was going to beat my team.
I told my players all about the other team's feelings before the game. They became determined to teach a lesson in humility. They went onto the field with a purpose and scored 3 goals in the first 12 minutes of the game! They held the other team scoreless for the entire first half.
It was exciting for us to do so well against an opponent who assumed victory.
