In the Grutter Decision, the Supreme Court allowed racial discrimination in college admissions….one of their terrible ideas. As a result…fewer black grads- not more......fewer physicians, scientists, and engineers.

PoliticalChic is Asian? (How did I miss that?) But I do recall she went to Columbia University, and that - combined with her contributions to this forum - shows me she is a very bright young lady.

Unfortunately, bright Asian-Americans such as PolChic are at the top of the chopping block as far as college admissions go - and any other prestigious programs for that matter - in order to admit more blacks who would otherwise be rejected if not for the color of their skin. (The competitive TJ High School abolished the entrance exam because too many Asians were acing it, and too few blacks were doing well enough to get accepted into the school.)

And, as she points out, the racist admissions policies favoring blacks do them no favors. The ones admitted due to the melanin content rather than merit (which is about 2 out of 3 admitted blacks) struggle to keep up with their more academically successful peers, and often require extensive tutoring and handholding to get them through the program.

Then consider the damage to the 1 out of 3 blacks who would have qualified even if white. Because educational institutions bend over backward to admit lesser qualified blacks, these “white standards” blacks are hampered by the suspicion that they got in due to skin color, rather than merit, which statistically was likely.

Finally, consider the negative impact to our society when we do not put the best and brightest REGARDLESS of color in spots, but the best and brightest among whites and then a separate measure for the best and brightest among blacks, measured under a lower standard. We then do not get the best and brightest overall, and we fall behind other developed countries. (Is this to say that the best and brightest are never blacks? Of course not. But in a nation where they are 13% of the population, in 87% of the cases the best and brightest for any given spot will be among the rest of the population. It’s math.)

I will look forward to discussing the SCOTUS’s ruling when it comes out, and why the decision to disallow practices that specifically favor one race and disfavor the other two was correct.
