Most over-rated college football coaches, according to other football coaches

The most overrated of all time had to be Dennis Erickson. He inherited a great program at WSU and ruined it and went on to FSU and ruined it before going to the pros and showing his entire career was crap.

Erickson was never a head coach at FSU.

I have been a Crimson Tide fans since I was a kid in the 1960s. I lived about 8 or 9 blocks from campus. We would ride our bikes over to watch practice when Bear was in his tower.

Bear & Stabler were a great combination. So were Bear & Namath. So was Bear and so many people.

Saban has been remarkable, not just for his winning record & titles. He pushes academics. The Alabama football program has a higher graduation rate than the national average for all students, not just athletes.
Yes, Saban brings the whole package to Alabama football. Bear was great, no doubt. I was born and raised in Alabama. I live in Alabama now. Been an Alabama fan since I was born. I've been watching Alabama football since I was a very young kid.

It's was Florida. Might have the school wrong.

3 college football writers talked to 20% of the head coaches at FBS college football programs. The interviews/polls were done with the promise of anonymity.

They were asked who the most over-rated head coaches are.

Jim Harbaugh came in first with 14% of the votes.
There was a 3 way tie for second between Lane Kiffin, Lovey Smith, and (are you ready for this?) Nick Saban each getting 9% of the votes.

Nick Saban is over-rated? In what alternate universe?

I'd take Sabin back at LSU, although I like the new guy, too.
LSU is a great school, great football team, but they've had poor coaching for many years. They've had some of the best players in the country, and did a very poor job developing them. I have no faith in coach O.

LSU will probably win 8 or 9 games this year.

We're riding on our rep currently IMO.
I agree to an extent. But, they are loaded with talent. They need a good quarterback. They have one of the best running backs in the country.

That's what I mean. We get good talent because LSU. We'd better hurry up and do something with that talent before they quit coming.

My twin lives in Alabama but is still all LSU. It gets tense sometimes lol.

Now the 14% voting for Harbaugh makes sense. I keep hearing that he is going to bring Michigan Championship after championship. 2 years and the best he did was finish 3rd in his division. I guess this year will tell. It is his team now.

Nope third time is the charm.
Well I remember Washington state
Oregon state
Arizona state
49ers
Seahawks.

He did a short and I mean short stint in Florida. I will look it up.

LSU has to beat Bama in order for coach O to keep his job. LSU will not beat Bama this year. Alabama has so much talent, and are so deep, their 2nd and 3rd team players could win 9 games without a single 1st team player. They have a stable of running backs and receivers. They're deep in the secondary, and their offensive line may be better than last year. They have 3 quarterbacks that could be a starter for 90% of the 130 FBS schools. Their defensive line is going to be mean nasty MFers this year also.

In Florida or AT Florida? There is a HUGE difference between the two. He won two National Championships at Miami of FLORIDA. And it wasn't short. It was like 5 years.

I don't believe that he's as good as his $9,000,000 salary.

I know what you mean. I have two daughters that are HUGE LSU fans.

I lived in Baton Rouge for 3 1/2 years. I lived in Louisiana a total of ten years. My youngest daughter was born in Baton Rouge.

So is this only current coaches? If it is coaches all time, I'll go with Charlie Wies, and that's with me being a Notre Dame fan. If it is current coaches, I'll go with Kentucky coach Mark Stoops. He came in and everyone thought he was going to turn the program around. He got some good recruiting classes and has done nothing with them, with an overall record of 19-30 and an 0-1 bowl record in his ONLY winning season at 7-6.

So I guess Alabama is so good fsu shouldn't even show up. I think I have seen this movie before.

If you want to guess that, it is your choice. I don't think anyone here has said that. It should be a great game. But yeah, I think Bama will win.

Well the defenses are probably on par with each other although fsu secondary is better, but defense is easy part. I suspect game will be decided by which offense has the most cohesiveness for first game of season. I really wish this game was not the first one on the docket.

Mysogonist!

Alabama FSU will be the best game that you'll see all year. Two talented evenly matched teams. Both teams loaded to the gills. My guess is over 1,000 yds total offense. At least 800 yds of passing yardage between them. Don't miss it.

Score ---------------------- Alabama 52 ..................... FSU 44
