Most over-rated college football coaches, according to other football coaches

Well, apparently Coach Saban agrees with the poll. He said this in an interview:
“Well, first of all, I probably agree with that,” Saban said on the Dan Patrick Show. “The success we have is really contributed to by a lot of people. We have really good coaches. We have a really good staff of people who work with players. We have a tremendous amount of really, really good players who have made a tremendous commitment to a standard of excellence that has created a lot of success here.

“I feel like I get far too much credit for that so I would probably tend to agree with whoever voted that way, to be honest with you.”

I am soooooooo ready for the game. But this is interesting. There is no news on fsu. Reporters can't get in, practices are closed, and players are not giving interviews. I know exactly zip about our team. It's like it is more secret than Area 51. I literally have no idea what to expect except

I Am READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!!!!! !

Is someone gonna start a new thread for this game?

I've tried to get college football threads started.

3 college football writers talked to 20% of the head coaches at FBS college football programs. The interviews/polls were done with the promise of anonymity.

They were asked who the most over-rated head coaches are.

Jim Harbaugh came in first with 14% of the votes.
There was a 3 way tie for second between Lane Kiffin, Lovey Smith, and (are you ready for this?) Nick Saban each getting 9% of the votes.

Nick Saban is over-rated? In what alternate universe?
Same for harbaugh. Went to a Superbowl and had a great turnaround first year at Michigan. He over achieved his first year.

Over rated or over achiever?

Harbaugh is probably on this list because of his fans (or Michigan fans). They have been crowing about him like he is the second coming.

He is the second coming. Now keep in mind Bo Shembeckler didn't win a ton of National Championships but he made Michigan one of the most winningest programs of all time.

Harbaugh will be great. He already has been great. The question is, will he take a step back this year or forward. I'm hearing bad things so he may not have the talent this year but gosh darn it guys want to play for Jim. That's why he's great.

Is he a great play caller? Probably not. But he has the it factor.

Nick Sabin didn't win at MSU. Not a national championship. But he did a great job at MSU. That's why he went to a school where all the top recruits want to play. Because Bama is so good it makes me not care about college football.

Steve Spurrier

Why him? Florida was ranked at the end of the season 5 times in 28 years before he showed up. They were a team facing sanctions and investigations when he showed up that was 0-9 the previous three years against FSU, Auburn and Georgia. With Spurrier, ranked 12 times in 12 years. When he stepped away Florida had finished in the top ten 13 times in school history. 10 of those 13 years were his. He won Florida's first 6 SEC titles. Never won fewer than 9 games in his 12 years there (only 2 ncaa coaches besides him have a streak like that),

He created top offenses run by Wuerfful, Matthews, Doug Johnson, Rex Grossman, and Jesse Palmer. Those are the kind of QB's that went undefeated against Peyton Manning in college. Those were the guys leading the only coach in NCAA history to score 500+ points for 4 straight years.

For 202 of his 203 weeks as the head coach of Florida his team was ranked in the top 25. He's the ONLY coach in NCAA history to win over 120 games in their first 12 years with a team.

Even his other stops without the same success were impressive. Got Duke to their first bowl game in 30 years, and no coach had more wins in a year there since 1941. He was the ACC coach of the year in 2 of his 3 seasons there.

Or South Carolina. School has three 11 win seasons in school history. All 3 by Spurrier. Spurrier was their head coach for half of that schools bowl wins EVER. He's South Carolina's all time leader in wins, bowl appearances, bowl wins, and outside of a couple 1 year coaches over 100 years ago, winning percentage. The best coach in school history for 2 SEC teams.

I guess he'd be overrated sure if people were calling him a top 10 all time coach. I think he fits well in that 15-25 range. I am sure his trash talking didn't endear him to fans of other teams, but as a coach, recruiter, and offensive mind, he was really good.

Over rated does not mean obnoxious. Some of the best coaches can be assholes. Spurrier was a master. I wouldn't call him over-rated either.

I am trying not to go overboard but even my new neighbor from Alabama came over and forced me to bet. I hardly ever bet and now I am in for $110. Lol big spender eh? There is going to be a lot of talent on the field. Please get here soon.

Its going to be a helluva game! There is a lot of future NFL talent on that field.

I'd take Sabin back at LSU, although I like the new guy, too.
so if it were forced on you, you would accept Saban, but you are content with coach Yaw Yaw?

whatever helps you sleep at night, baw...

No. Sabin is good. Orgeron is likeable. I'd like Sabin back. I'd like to have Orgeron over for a BBQ.

Michigan beat a ranked team! You guys must not remember them under Brady hoke. Harbaugh immediately turned the program around. Worth every penny. Michigan will be competitive

Jesus this humble pie tastes terrible. It doesn't matter how good the defense is without an offense you are not going to be champions. See Florida last year. I don't know what happened to the Noles in the second half but it was embarrassing. Unheard of really. They lost their composure and focus. Partisans will say that's what Alabama does to ya and I don't want to take anything away from them. They executed and showed way more preparedness on special teams. But fsu misfortune was self inflicted. You aren't going to beat any team much less Alabama with five turnovers in one quarter. I can only hope that the championship nature of the defense , which never quit might rub off on the offense. There is just not a chemistry there yet. You have to tip your hat to Sagan, he is definitely THE MAN.

After thinking a lot about the game I am more and more convinced that Francois was playing with a concussion. This boy, tough as he is, may need to give up football. He just cannot withstand the kind of punishment he is taking every game without some kind of lasting effect. What other explanation can there be for two interceptions on the first play of two possessions. Winter and I could both have intercepted those passes. I hope he is ok and recovers but there is too much talent to have performed so badly in the second half. I am not sure we have a decent back up quarterback but it is time to put those two great running backs in the backfield, let the receivers loose and go back to the pocket passing game leaving enough people in to protect the quarterback. Ain't nothing wrong with old school. Thank god we have a cream puff next game.

I just saw where Francois is out for the season. Man I feel bad for that kid, but maybe this is the best thing for his long term health.
I hate that the kid is out for the season. I never enjoy seeing players injured. And he did take some hits from some big boys.

Alabama's offense was not what I was hoping to see. But it will do for now. The defense looked seriously ready.

Good game. FSU's defense was flying all over the place.

Shrimpbox, you are from Carrabelle FL? There used to be a place there called Juliamae's (I think). Little roadside place. Best seafood around! And they served plenty of it.

Julia MAEs is long gone. Sold out in the land gold rush of 2007. Now it's a vacant lot. The Fishermans Wife is the place for seafood now.

I had heard they closed. It has been years since I was there. Late 80s was probably the last time.
