Most Americans Favor Showing Photo ID To Vote

Out the window goes the "VOTER ID IS WACIS!" trope....

How common is this?

Estimates vary, but studies consistently find millions of voting-age Americans lack current, qualifying photo ID, with higher rates among:
  • Elderly voters
  • Low-income individuals
  • Minority communities
  • People with disabilities

That’s why voter ID debates focus less on fraud and more on access.

The key takeaway

Most Americans who lack ID aren’t “choosing” not to have one in a political sense.

They’re responding to costs, inconvenience, paperwork problems, or life constraints that are easy to overlook if you’ve always had stable documents and transportation.
So they don't have access to drive, to fly out of the country, to prove their age to buy a beer, to open a bank account etc.. Blimey, how do they function and navigate in society? How many Americans have no ID whatsoever and unable to do what I listed? That's bad.

Voter ID is just a means of voter intimidation

Verified signature has sufficed for 200 years without measuarablevvoter fraud
Both Alabama and Georgia have voter ID laws and have had record voter turnouts in several elections. One fraudulent vote negates a valid one. In conclusion you are full of shit.

Poll tax is illegal. In my state, a plain state ID costs $10, which is a significant amount to homeless and unemployed citizens. States issuing free ID to people who can prove citizenship and lack of income could be cheaper than class action lawsuits. The address box may need tweaks for homelessness.

Actually…….in person voter fraud is EXTREMELY RARE
Chasing away ten legitimate voters to possibly find one fake is extremely stupid

It's BS, one cannot function without proper ID

No one is getting chased away. Voter ID laws do not stop people from voting. Alabama and Georgia record turnouts prove this.

This is just more of the bullshit lie that certain groups are to stupid or poor to get the IDs that every person has to have just to live a normal life.

We have declined. That is not a joke. It takes more and more taxes to keep the barbarians at the gate. In your haste for compassion, you put stealing, corruption and playing the system in your legislation to make things right. You took over schools and lowered the standards and then put social ways of living in front of Math, Science, English and Reading. So much so, that what we call DEI is involved in most ways of employment. Your party must change up somewhat. And you are not. You are making the mistake of going further and further left. You have seen near no response or pushback from the other side. Your violence and rhetoric are near all one way. You got ACA and gay marriage, and it was not a panacea as you believed it would. Stopping there was something prudent that you disregarded. People need to digest these changes to the American way. It's when you showed your total contempt for the other side that you began to lose. Mind you, you still control most of the mechanisms of our nation.

So what?

I've been here since 2011 and not one poster has ever been able to show me an example of ACTUAL voter fraud which could have been prevented by Voter ID.

This should make you wonder what the government's REAL purpose behind REAL ID is.

Since you don't wonder, that speaks volumes as to your intelligence.
Never long before the FAGAt conspiracy theorists appear,

Why didnt you just Google it? :cuckoo:

I have one. Do they ask for it? No. When I went to the DMV to renew my license last time, a lady asked me if I'd brought a passport or my birth certificate. I said no. She said go up to the next table and make an appointment to come in with your credentials. I left. At home I renewed it online. Sadly, I didn't get a new picture. In my DL picture from 12 years ago, I was pushing 300 lbs. I've lost 80 lbs. and really don't even look like that picture anymore. In my passport photo, I have a huge beard. I keep it short now, and don't look like that photo either.
Doxx me, I don't care. I live alone, and can protect myself from anything.
Look at you, thinking anyone would care who you are… :laughing0301:

I support Voter ID, I think it has value. However it should be the governments responsibility to provide such IDs.

There are conditions though that need to be in place so Voter ID is not used for voter suppression to include (but not limited to):
  • Such ID as to be 100% free to include no cost in obtaining underlying documents used to obtain the ID.
  • Voter ID should not be used to inhibit mail in voting (in other words the ID # must be provided as part of ballot security.
  • There needs to be an ombudsman office to assist those that have difficulty in verifying ID with obtaining resolution (up to and including issuing authorization for the ID).

One of the biggest things I disagree with though is our current voter registration system is outdated and all citizens should be automatically considered registered to vote unless the franchise was removed. Out current system is based on the conditions from the Revolutionary War and need updating.

It is easy to find if someone committed in person voter fraud
If it happens by the millions like Republicans claim, there would be hundreds of thousands of cases of people showing up to vote and being denied because they had already voted

Rarely happens

You could make similar erroneous claims about gun ownership and gun laws (which you do), if you are a socialist or Communist
As always, you prove yourself incorrect.

Everything you Socialist/Communist do and favor is geared towards minimizing individuality and embracing totalitarianism.
The irony is that you always attempt to disguise your efforts as "safety measures", anti-racism" or other phony deflections.

Basically you live and thrive on deceit. A disgrace and smear on the face of humanity.

I would agree but Government should help people get acceptable IDs not set up barriers

Many people have lost the chain of identity during their lives
Lost birth certificates, name changes in marriages, errors in documentation. Not everyone drives.

If the Government can show that 99 percent of the population has an acceptable ID, then they can require it to vote

Whoa! Hold on there folks. Most Americans favor showing photo ID to vote. Most Republicans favor it. Most Democrats favor it. Even most minorities favor it. So, democrats, what's the deal?

Should federal or state level government be responsible for issuing the Real ID?

Google AI Overview:

"Main Constitutional Arguments Against REAL ID
    • 'Tenth Amendment (States' Rights):
Critics argue that Congress cannot compel states to implement federal standards for issuing driver's licenses, effectively turning them into national ID cards, thus violating states' autonomy and dual sovereignty.
    • Right to Travel (First Amendment):
The requirement for REAL ID for federal purposes (like flying) creates a two-tiered system, making it harder for non-compliant citizens to travel, which some see as an unconstitutional condition on the fundamental right to travel.
    • Privacy & Surveillance:
The act's creation of linked databases and standardized, machine-readable IDs raises concerns about mass surveillance, data security, and potential misuse of personal information, affecting privacy rights."
