More of us Christians should be like Saint Don Bosco

If I were to follow that advice I would be dead today.

I doubt about that you interpret this words in the right way. I guess you think something what is only superficial is able to hurt god. Most people even think nothing is able to hurt god. Be happy, if you never will come into a real situation, where such a question becomes a torture for you and you have only the chance to suffer a martyr or to betray our father and all of his children.

Here an English translation of this song:

Surrounded truly and silently by powers of goodness
protected and comforted wonderfully
thus I would live these days with you (all)
and go with you into a new year

Sheltered wonderfully by powers of goodness
We are looking forward confidently to what may come
God is with us in the evening and in the morning
and for sure on every new day

Still the past is trying to torture our hearts
Still the heavy load of evil days is squeezing us
Oh Lord, for our jolted souls
prepare the health that you have made us for

Sheltered wonderfully by powers of goodness
We are looking forward confidently to what may come
God is with us in the evening and in the morning
and for sure on every new day

And may you offer the heavy bitter cup
of grief, filled to the very rim
We´ll take it thankfully without trembling
from your good and beloved hand

Sheltered wonderfully by powers of goodness
We are looking forward confidently to what may come
God is with us in the evening and in the morning
and for sure on every new day

It is not my job as a Christian to prevent other people from insulting God.

I always thought God was big enough to defend himself.

He frequently outsources.

Work smart, not hard.

That's only an overinterpretation of the formula, which made the western world "great":

Ora et labora (et lege), Deus adest sine mora
=Pray and work (and read), god is here without delay.

I would say "Work continously smart and let god help you" is a better interpretation.

I remember in this context that I was very shocked when Pope John Paul II made clear that work is not a god. Work is an important thing - but I fear meanwhile some people are lost in materialism.
