Back on topic: in 2010 President Obama
canceled the Constellation program (the plan to return humans to the Moon).

See the 2010 NASA Authorization Act.

But, I I say this, with a hat tip toward Obama, that he ALSO thereby redirected federal funding toward:commercial spaceflight partnerships. That was probably the best course. And it seems to have inspired a few prominent businessmen.

Obama’s legislative program also sought new long-term technologies (like deep-space propulsion). Frankly, in my view, that was very much to his credit. Foresighted.
And he sought a future mission to Mars instead of a near-term Moon return.

The present lunar missions are actually a part of the proposed future mission to send humans to Mars. Again, it didn’t manifest in the way it sounds, but the thinking was still foresightful.

In summary, both points of view about Obama and NASA have facets of the truth.
