You know, actually look and sound Presidential. He's blown two opportunities to get his points across with constant interrupting, bullying, arguing, and flat out condescension. Collegiate debating is far different from a presidential debate. Usually they debate only one issue at a time. I am not sure any party would agree to collegiate debating formats.

Having said that, since the first presidential debates were resumed with Kennedy/Nixon, nearly all the moderators, I believe, have been journalists or pundits.

Perhaps a panel format would have been better. I would prefer no moderator at all; however, that would require self-control on the part of the candidates. Self-control Trump lacks in spades.

For the record, I have no problem with experimenting with other types of moderators.

Again, none of the moderators inserted their personal political leanings (if we knew them) into the process. They were trying their best to keep Trump on track. Which would be the issue with ANYONE you put in that moderator chair.
When your opponent starts spewing lies, conspiracy theories, and things that have nothing to do with policy, that might make a person a little angry. But again, that's not what a debate is supposed to be. Trump wanted to conduct
the debate like one of his pep rallies. And the mods tried their best to keep him on track. Interruptions for Trump..around 70...interruptions for Biden..around 30. You do the math.

I suspect that most collegiate debate moderators are mostly liberal democrats, academia being what it is. It's one thing to be moderating a college debate but a political debate between Trump and Biden is a whole 'nother ball game. These days college profs get fired for not toeing the progressive liberal line 100%.
