MLB reinstates Pete Rose and others, paving way for Hall of Fame consideration

Pete was not a GREAT player. You can't equate him to willie or the hammer or the babe or the clipper or A-rod. Pete was a singles hitter and an ok fielder. Without the betting scandal, he would have made the hall but if you think he's one of the top 20 players of all time, you don't know baseball. Maybe number 85, which is still pretty good.
4256 hits is still 4256 hits
No modern player is even close

He was the unquestioned leader of The Big Red Machine and consistently got 200
hits a season

The last 5 years pete played, he was a 1b hitting 270 with one HR a year. That's not good enough for MLB. He should have retired at 40. The 4256 is kind of phony.

**** him

My memory of him is barrel rolling catcher Ray Fossee in a ******* all star game and breaking his leg

What an asshole

You have to look at his whole body of work
Not ***** about how bad he was in his 40s

Do you ***** about how bad Willie Mays or Mickey Mantle were at the end of their careers?

Hey
Just a freaking All Star Game

Why was Fosse blocking the plate?

Mantle was still a great hitter his final year - 1968. His stats look bad but that's because pitchers were so dominant at the time.
Mays was good till his final year and then he quit. One bad year at the end, not 5.

Both Mantle and Mays limped in their final four years

Very few stars go out on top

I never said mays and mick
went out at their peak. But they were still pretty good their last few years and had the right to be in the bigs. Not so with rose.

rose at the age of 43 played 121 games and hit .286....not bad for an old guy....mantle his last year at 36 played 144 games and hit .237 ...Mays at the age of 40 played 136 games and hit .271....yea they did so much better....

Rose hit ZERO home runs that year and that was not even his last year. Played 2 more years after that. His last year his BA was 219 and zero HRs. Mantle's 237 BA his final year was above the league average that year (1968, the year of the pitcher) and he hit 18 HRs.

Rose was terrible his last 5 years while mantle never had a bad year in his career. His WAR rating was positive every year of his career.!! That's super.

In 1968, Mantle was 36 and batted .237 and limped off to retirement

At 36, Pete Rose batted .311 and had over 200 hits
Pete Rose had over 1500 hits after the age of 36
