MLB is rigging games, unlike Pete Rose

They don’t have the same dynamic as baseball. Football has attrition issues and rules to enhance QB dominance while the other sports can similarly be impacted significantly by one player.
Baseball can’t live off of one pitcher.
And why punish the players? They play the games and should demand what they deserve.

Forgive me if I don't feel heartache over people making a minimum of $600k being "punished"

They can demand the split of the revenue and the details of the revenue during the negotiations, a salary cap doesn't punish anyone.

If you look at things from ‘94-on, you’ll see the same big-market teams making the playoffs every year. The Red Sox went 80-plus years between WS as did the Cubs but look at how often both have been in the post-season since 1994.
If you're talking just playoffs, then note that expansion means more teams make the playoffs.

John Henry (R Sox) and Mark Walter (Dodgers) are dickheads, but they are investing in their teams. The Cubs have--famously--won only one WS since 1908. Hell, they have 3 titles in their entire history. Pitiful.

The owners that don't win are really cheap bastards. For example, Pittsburgh bilked their residents to build PNC, arguably the nicest MLB park; however, the owner, Bob Nutting, ranks in the top ten of richest MLB owners. He has a bad rep and has earned his nickname, "Bottom Line Bob."

It makes the owners richer at the expense of limits on players. Isn’t that what strikes were designed to change?

Not if they negotiate the split correctly.

The Strikes were to prevent a salary cap.

You either get a salary cap and connected floor, or you get the imbalances you have today. Pick one.

He has a small market so consistent winning is not likely. He’s also still a businessman.
More teams make the playoffs but there are proportionately more teams overall so the odds aren’t that enhanced. It’s more than conspicuous that the larger markets win more.

They're all businessmen. They also have revenue sharing.

The larger market teams marginally win more, but it's not that out of whack. Witness the big money-big market teams that lose: Phils, Chicago (both teams), Dodgers, Angels, and Mets. Hell, Houston has gone all out on payrolls recently, but they've only mustered a 2-2 WS record. And they had to cheat to do it!

The big-market success is way out of whack. Has been since ‘94.
Any small market teams who have success do so out of excellent young team building and you can be sure all of their impact players will be bought by the big markets. Look at the Marlins of ‘97 and ‘03 and the Royals from a few years back.
If the Phillies, Mets, Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox or Astro’s don’t make the playoffs, their seasons should be considered utter failures.

Those players can be bought by any team. Again, Bottom Line Bob is top ten of richest MLB owners, but he dumps players. Miami is a huge market because of population and the hot sauce connection to Latin American players, but they also did a recent dump and then had an abysmal record. And don't get me started on KC! lol Faggot owner and team don't even belong in the league.

Success is winning it all over a long period of time. Yanks are successful. Cards are successful. Playoff appearances mean nothing in that regard.

They do not sell tickets in
Miami or generate even close to the revenue they do in NY, NE, etc.
Only big market teams can buy multiples of the big name players.

If you can't sell tix in Miami, then you need a new business model. Or, get out of the business.

The players will still make plenty of money.

The other big 3 sports all run under some form of a cap.
But......but...................but.............baseball players are special.

Honestly, the baseball union is the most powerful in the world for whatever reason as they have single handedly destroyed baseball.

Which is why I think we won't have baseball for 2 years when the current Agreement expires.

When does it expire?

Honestly, not many people will care today, except those fans of big market teams. Most Americans don't even watch anymore.

Dec 1st, 2026.

Football is King, and Basketball is Queen, but baseball is that old friend you have for the summer.

Plus it's the best sport to listen to on the radio while you do other things.
