Mitt Romney has written an editorial. It should prompt a national discussion. It won't.

The FACT that you never noticed that Biden has been in serious progressive decline since 2019 leaves me with NO confidence in your ability to assess anything else.

You have TDS, it's a real issue and all the denial in the world won't change that.
TDS is a fiction. A little bit of idiocy you folks lean on like a crutch because you just can't bring yourselves to acknowledge the colossal error in judgement you made in supporting an incompetent, serial abuser of women to lead the country. A convicted criminal who is unfit to be prez in every way possible.

Prove SS abuse isn’t a thing.
In a program the size of SS of course there will be some fraud. But it's miniscule.

Key Figures & Facts
  • High Accuracy: The Social Security Administration (SSA) has a payment accuracy rate exceeding 99%, meaning only about 0.3% are "improper payments" (errors, not fraud).
  • Fraud is Tiny: Actual fraud accounts for a very small percentage of total payments, with one report highlighting it as less than 0.01%.
  • Improper Payments vs. Fraud: Most improper payments (billions of dollars) come from mistakes like overpayments due to missed changes in circumstances, not intentional fraud.

Right and there is no "significant" voter fraud or Somali fraud scheme in MN. It is amazing how much trust you put in the federal government when it comes to protecting your political ideologies.
Correct.

The Myth of Voter Fraud

That would be a HUGE tax increase for wealthier, not necessarily rich, Americans. Many small business owners would be decimated.

A self-employed person making 300k per year would pay about 16k more in taxes per year or $1300/mth. That is money they will never see, so it effectively raised their taxes 12.7%. That is absurd. For the same person working for a company, the employee would pay an extra 8k and the company would have to foot the bill the additional 8k.

This would kill the economy, by slowing wage growth, decreasing hiring and limit the number of small businesses. But hey, what do you care as long as you don’t have to pay, right? That seems to be the mantra of today’s youth and Democratic Party. Never mind the long term consequences.
You must have missed this part of the OP.

The thread is not intended to start a debate on the details of Romney's recommendations. Rather, it is to highlight the impending shortfall in the SS trust requires the nation to have a serious debate over what to do about it.

Investigation after investigation. Audit after audit. Lawsuit after lawsuit and very little turns up but yet you still believe.

In MN we will let the investigation play out. If something is uncovered I hope it's fully prosecuted.

This is rich coming from someone who didn't notice what anyone with unaffected by TDS brains could see...that Joe Biden has been severely compromised by illness and was not competent to serve as POTUS in 2020 or during his entire term.

TDS is as real as you are.

Ya ignore the reality while pandering to the fake and misleading info you want.

Its a very real solution, you just don’t like it so you resort to childish name calling.

We could also just confiscate the wealth of the bottom 75% of the the country, pay off our national debt entirely and put them on UBI. That is also a real solution. Just think of it, the bottom 75% wouldn't have to work anymore.

The beauty of the cheat is that every ballot would need to be individually investigated. That isn't possible. If 10 were found have been counted that had fraudulent signatures, for example, you can be rest assured there are thousands more that were never caught. The mere fact that Democrats are so opposed to voter id is a huge red flag. They have no interest in securing the election process.

Is that not what the "Ninja's " did? They had access to every single vote. Or are you saying that those complaining are just too lazy to prove anything?

Well, no you can't.

I have a voter ID. It's called a voters registration card. I've used it since 1980. Now you want me to jump through additional hoops to exercise my constitutionally protected right.

Screw off.

I am saying we can thoroughly investigate 150 million ballots, which is one of the reasons why a state issued photo ID should be required to vote.

Well, no you can't.

Again, we don't have the time or resources to do a large randomized audit. That is the beauty of the cheat.

I meant a state issued photo id, not a voter registration card, which also isn't required. In some states, anyone could walk in and claim to be you and vote on your behalf. If you aren't a regular voter, who would know? Showing ID isn't jumping through hoops. It is common sense, which is why most civilized countries require it.

I show my ID.

But it’s not a real solution and you know that.

The OP says that we can’t have an adult conversation about the budgetary issues facing this country and you’re proving them correct.

Would ending the cap on SS tax suck for people? Yes. Some people. A few percent of the people. It wouldn’t be catastrophic.

Broke the irony meter

Yes, it actually would be quite harmful for many of those people. My family would fall into this category. We have bills to pay. We aren't living on a trust fund or interest. Hiking our taxes by 6% of income above that threshold with zero benefit for us would be a very significant detriment. Forget saving more for college for my children. Despite already paying more in taxes than most, we must pay more because that is only "fair." That is total crap. Many are all for it because it doesn't affect them at all. It's easy to spend someone else's money.

Oh, you want to convince me your worried about the effects it'll have on your kids?

******* hell man, have you considered what's going to happen to your kids if we don't figure this out?

I'm not going to ask about your household income, but a 1%er family making half a million a year can probably afford to pay another $10-15k in taxes without that much trouble.
