Mississippi couple accused of trying to join ISIS Fox News

Two Mississippi residents were arrested over the weekend on charges that they were trying to travel abroad to join the Islamic State militant group (ISIS).

There is an information about Americans who are going to join ISIS in varying degrees on average once a month in the media...

Since ISIS became the real threat to the whole international community and after ISIS became a household name in America, using brutality propaganda to challenge al Qaeda and its affiliates for jihadist adherents, more and more people start to share its views and beliefs, they try to move to Syria in order to help ISIS and become a part of this evil community.

What is the motivation of these people to quit their homeplaces and to join the fight?
I was trying to make it clear and found something…

Peter Neuman, director of ICSR (International Center for Study of Radicalization) said to Huffington Post some months ago:

Foreign fighters are not a monolithic entity, and not every one of them is like the guys you see in recruitment videos. Young people are going, quite old people are going, even women are going. Their motivations vary as well. At first, a lot of people joined because they were motivated by the plight of the Syrians. They were certainly Islamists, but they were not necessarily full-blown jihadists. Of those who traveled to Iraq and Syria more recently, many are very ideologically motivated. For some, there's also an element of adventure. The idea of fighting and using guns is clearly exciting a lot of people.

According to National Intelligence Director James Clapper, 180 Americans have tried to go to fight in Syria. It's unclear how many of those were attempting to join ISIS.

What are you personally think about people who want to support such organizations?
It maybe your neighbors or colleagues …

What's the punishment should be for them after the arrest?

I don't think that groups like ISIS are actively recruiting U.S. citizens, but they're not turning them away, either.
They target their messages to attract the weak-willed, the disgruntled, the uneducated, and disenfranchised members of a population, the same as any cult. When these individuals commit acts of "terrorism", the groups then claim credit without actually having done anything. The media (possibly)inadvertently assists in spreading the word to the curious by publicizing these acts, so the movement grows even more.

Mentally ill.

I can't think of a punishment that will work 100%, but they do need to be locked away for the safety of all and deprogrammed, same as any cult member.

Yeah, they don't recruit so actively, but their propaganda works, that's a fact. If at least 10% of those who decided to join the Islamic State would travel there successfully and reach their goal, then it's worth the cost.
