I had the unfortunate experience of been the one with no patient listing. To the hospital I was not there even though. We both nearly died in childbirth. My daughter was in neonatal, but I did not have a room and the hospital did not know were I was or have a nurse to tell family how I was after the surgery. I was not even on the same floor but in a nurses lounge because there was not room at the inn.

When I woke up, in the middle of the night I wanted to see and hold my daughter for for the first time I was told I couldn't, she was on a different floor and could not be moved to my floor. I razed hell and the nurses were concerned I would start bleeding. Finally I got them to bring her down but I had only a few minutes before they took her back up stairs. Husband call to see how we were before coming back to the hospital. When I was not on the list, he was afraid I had died during the surgery or the night. When he got there and asked on every flood at the nurses station if they had me. Didn't help that there was a change of shift nurses and the new ones had not even see the list if who's files they had. Second time through the nurse had found my chart. He would not calm down till he could see me. In the nurses lounge it was staff only, even though my bed was there. I finally got a room as several were going home that day from the maternity floor. Once I got a room, the hospital had me in their listings. Then I got to have my daughter in my room with me. One hand on her all day and night till we went home.

Till a child is born it is not really alive and it's own person. Before that it is just part of the woman. One patient, then two.
