Michigan School District Allows Sikh Students to Wear Religious Dagger to School

Hey not to derail but Two Thumbs might be the most thank-happy posted in history!

And yet, a religion is being accomodated every week. And I am more agnostic...tho I must admit, looking into Buddhism more and more.

Much ado about nuthin.

Buddism is cool, exspecially if you get into the 5 elements.
Sorry about the pagan thing, I'm getting people confused with other people (strolling Bones, I think)

I need to take notes

No, you were right...I was looking into paganism for a few years. I am still a Searcher.

Gun to the head.

I'd go with "Intellegent design"

The idea that we are a bunch of comic coincedenses doesn't pass my "hmm" check. And you can thank the Science Channel. They make lurnin fun.

Thanks. I remember hearing about a similar case where that was proposed as a solution, but I can't find a news article related to it anywhere...

I wonder how they deal with flying? I'll have to ask my Sikh friend.

anything can be turned into a weapon. Sorry that your limited thinking skills cant grasp this.

A dagger is built as a weapon.

Stooping to insults is a sign of a weak mind. Perhaps you should learn to mind your manners.
like calling people lame? Shut up moron

A daggor is built for many reasons, weapons being one of them. A cross is built to show faith, both can be used for a weapon.

We must as well ban chairs and desks from schools using your ******* logic.

Anyone that makes me smile, pause and think, wonder, gets a "Thanks"

If I do actually Laugh, am amazed, learn sumptin, or get to really thinking, I give out rep.

and when Im outta rep, everyone gets thanks.

Even you GT.

There you go.....can't accomodate one without the others in this country. NOTHING in our Constitution saying government determines what religion is accomodated based on majority.

Schools are run by the states. And yes we can pick one thing over another, on local levels.

Besides, you're making a moutain outta a mole hill. We've had the weekend off for a very very long time. to the point most people only know that that's how it was growin up.

You're a pagan, right?

I'm curious as to what kind. Any particular pantheon?

And yet, a religion is being accomodated every week. And I am more agnostic...tho I must admit, looking into Buddhism more and more.

Can you explain why Saturday is off then?

How would that work?

If they "have to have it", they wouldn't be able to get on a plane.

I don't know any Sikh, PM when you find out plz.

No need to Thank me, I would likely steal your coat to have two while you freeze to death.

Just playin. Cheers man!~

Saturday is for watching Notre Dame, and some other college football teams. Clearly it's a religion. You know as well as I do that football is proof that God loves us.

I would agree if the Steelers generally played on Saturdays... And there are all kinds of proof of God's love that we see or do every day of the week, i.e. beer, sex, etc... so, I guess under that definition every day is a holy day.

Saturday is the Biblical sabbath. It was moved to Sunday to accommodate Roman paganism and because Christians at the time were attempting to disassociate themselves from Jews. Perhaps you're given this day off in light of scripture, or so that you have a day to do work around the house before the "day of rest."

Yes, it was moved, i.e. no longer a holy day. The point being that the idea that the concept of the weekend in today's age is to solely accomodate Christians is completely retarded. But, some obviously feel the need to grasp at straws when they have nothing else.

No it is not...in fact there were laws on the books to prevent people to work on Sundays...now that most of them are gone, we need to extend school days...sunday is a fine choice.

What you don't get, Bod, is that you can't take my faith away from me. Go ahead and schedule school or anything else 7 days of the week to satisfy your sick need for some kind of a false sense of retribution that you seem to have. It would matter not to me, and that's the part that you don't get. You're not 'getting even' for whatever screwy thing you think you're 'getting even' for by scheduling anything on Sunday. It wouldn't change anything for any christian that carries God in their heart 7 days a week. You're the one with the problem, maybe you should seek help to get over this false sense of victimhood that clearly comes thru all of your posts concerneing christianity?

Sorry bout that,

A Detroit-area district says it's allowing Sikh students to wear a small, religious dagger to school, MyFoxDetroit.com reports.

The decision by the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools reverses a ban put in place in December after a fourth-grader at a Canton Township elementary school was found with a dull, 3- to 5-inch kirpan.

The kirpan represents a commitment to fight evil in the Sikh tradition. The dagger is a religious symbol that baptized Sikh males are expected to carry.

Well, looks like the rest of the kids will have to bring their "guns to the knife fight"

We can't say prayers in school but little Sikh's can bring religious knives to school..:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

It is making me sick, watching our country morph into the right's of others for the sake of PC.

What you don't get, Newby, is that I have no desire to take your faith away from you....but it is significant to see that you think that I want to do that....persecution complexes seem to be common within the Religious Right community. And yet, there is a lack of empathy towards any other religion and their practices.

Since I am more or less on the outside looking in, maybe it's easier for me to see....
