(CNSNews.com) - In remarks at the historic Decatur House in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, first lady Michelle Obama remembered the 20 slaves who toiled at the mansion around the corner from the White House, where "some of our nation's foremost leaders" lived and hosted parties.

The stories of those slaves "too often get lost," Mrs. Obama said.

Oh come on! Gimme a break Moochelle. It's been over a hundred years and nobody alive is responsible for it. You and your husband simply cannot stop playing the race card, can you?

Exactly. Of course, we all remember the past and most of us (that includes minorities) don't dwell on it. Meanwhile, the government and federal reserve continue to make slaves out of all of us by piling up debt that we must pay. Not to mention the government dependents that are the responsibility of tax payers.

I think the Obamas would better serve this country by never forgetting the Muslim terrorists who have killed so many of our citizens and aren't finished yet.

Maybe Obama can come out and remind people that we must not judge all people because of the actions of some decades ago. Won't happen. He will carry a grudge forever because of what some peoples' ancestors did, yet doesn't have an issue with radical Islamists who plot and plan against us infidels.

Live in the present and deal with what is facing us now instead of lamenting what happened in the past.

Oh sorry, you were just talking about blacks weren't you? My bad...

Learn me! Go ahead and learn me!

Just a word of advice....you better have your act together

It's really not my job to educate you. Start with Shelby Foote's The Civil War: A Narrative.

After that, find a good source on the history of Georgia.

Find out how Appalachia was originally populated.

Don't be willfully ignorant your entire life.

You ran away from having to actually having to prove your point, Why am I not surprised you could not back up your point?

Go ahead and try it and watch me rip you apart

What a total load of bullshit

The American Black slave experience was not unique? Are you fucking nuts? Indentured servitude was not slavery and it was voluntary. Black slaves were captured against their will and treated as animals. Not only them but all succeeding generations. What is not unique about that?

Race had nothing to do with slavery? They were treated like animals and considered lesser human beings up until the 1960s. Race had nothing to do with it?

Why did whites own whites? First slaves in America were white children from Britain. Historical fact.

Why did blacks own blacks? There were black slave owners. Historical fact.

Why did First Nations tribes own other natives as slaves? They did. Historical fact.

Don't hand me that racism bullshit.

Deal from the fringes and pretend it applies to the Black American slave experience

Show me anywhere NEAR the scope of millions of enslaved people, tell me about generational slavery, and we can talk about your nonsense

What fringes? There has been slavery world wide for centuries.

As a matter of fact slave comes from slav. Yes, slav. White slaves, blacks slaves, asian slaves. All have been slaves.

Slaves have sadly come in every color and held in bondage in every country on the planet for thousands of years.

I am not dismissing this evil practice. I just don't hold one slave group as "more special" than any other slave group.

What makes the American black slave experience any worse than this child's? This is in the here and now.

I'm saying that all slaves suffer and suffered in the past.

Atem Anguit

This young slave boy is only 10 years old and seems at first to be a quiet and sullen boy.

He was taken from his village in Ayen at age 6 and was taken to slavery in north for 4 years in the city of Setef. “Well,” the translator said.

“He is saying that there were six or seven slaves with him that were trying to escape and they were all beaten and they were being killed right in front of them.

He is saying that the raiders raped the women a lot on the way. “Yes many times. I know all of their names even.”

He said. The translator hands the boy something to eat and says, “He is saying that he doesn’t have a bed to sleep on or a blanket.

When the work is finished at night he goes to the stable and sleeps next the cows to stay warm. He was not free.”

Then Atem said I am very happy today and thank those of CSI who had come to redeemed us here, and I thank those who paid the money to free me from slavery,”

He tried to hold back the tears… And he said he is very happy today,
“even though I have no food to eat, I am very happy because I can go today feeling as someone in freedom”

Still waiting for you to make a point

What is it?

Slavery is not about race. There were white slaves in the USA before the civil war too and black slave owners. Right now in the world there are white slaves, asian slaves, middle Eastern slaves. In fact there are slaves of every race, creed and color all over the world.

Did somebody say race card?

"[the Media] are doubly scared that a real black man might run against Barack Obama"
-Herman Cain, March 30, 2011
(Right after saying this Cain proclaimed that his being the Republican nominee would "take the race card off the table")

Obama is not a strong black man"
-Herman Cain, March 30, 2011

"A real black man is not timid about making the right decisions"
Herman Cain, June 30, 2011

"it is documented that [Obama's] mother was white and his father was from Africa."
Herman Cain, June 30, 2011”
(Right after saying this Cain sanctimoniously proclaimed "but I'm not going down this color road")

Obama has "never Been A Part Of The Black Experience In America"
Herman Cain, Oct 10 or 11, 2011

Add to the above his statement that Jon Stewart is racist

Add his black people are brainwashed statement

Note, all of the above were made knowing the it was on the record and in some cases being recorded. All were also made while he was running for President (this time, not in 2000)

Slavery Today

What makes American slavery different?

It happened in THIS country and was defended by OUR Constitution. It was American citizens who openly engaged and defended enslaving other human beings. It was 600,000 American lives that had to be wasted to rid ourselves of this hateful institution

THAT is what is different

Is there anything more repulsive than people on this thread trying to defend the institution of slavery because it happened in other parts of the world?

Well.....THEY did it too
So it makes it OK for us to do it

You folks are a bunch of sick fucks
No other way to describe it

I reminds me of Democrats trying to defend the health insurance mandate because some conservatives came up with the idea first.

She shoulda said "Emancipation Proclamation...We were nothing until you blessed white people came to show us the light. Thank you, thank all of you. Go America"

That is true, of course.

Wage labor is more workable than slavery, it turns out, but if that is what the southern USA had settled on, does anyone suppose they would have hired blacks??

Wouldn't have happened. Irish, probably. That was done quite a bit anyway. They don't hire blacks now, either. Mexicans, instead. There seems to be a problem with work ethic and ability and drugs and so on. So they hire people from South of the Border.

Let's forget about slavery. Instead, we can teach our children about Washington confessing to chopping down the cherry tree with his new hatchet. After all, no public school history course teaches about the genoicide of Native Americans, so it never happened...

Of course the genocide of First Nations in America is part of the curriculum. Maybe not in all the school systems, but it is taught.

Here you go sparky.

Scarlett letters, Salem Witch Trials, banning Christmas, yea they sound like a great group to emulate.

I see your avatar is W.C. Fields: yes, if your ideal is to be a drunken and incapable sot, the Puritans will always run rings around you. Everyone of Puritan heritage will do better in life than the W.C. Fields types.

Slavery reminds you of health care debates. Really?

Happened?? It's happening all over right now!

Mostly Muslim and sex slavery, but there's a whole lot of it going on.

It's not just the forgotten past, it's not even past!

Get a freaking grip on yourself and stop lying about what has been said.

No one has defended the institution of slavery in this thread that I have seen.

That is a blatant mother trucking lie.
