From the University Of Chicago Chronicle:

Close-up on juvenile justice

Author, former offender among speakers

Children who kill are called "super predators," "people with no conscience," "feral pre-social beings" -- and "adults."

William Ayers, author of A Kind and Just Parent: The Children of Juvenile Court (Beacon Press, 1997), says "We should call a child a child. A 13-year-old who picks up a gun isn't suddenly an adult. We have to ask other questions: How did he get the gun? Where did it come from?"

Ayers, who spent a year observing the Cook County Temporary Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago, is one of four panelists who will speak on juvenile justice at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in the C-Shop. The panel, which marks the 100th anniversary of the juvenile justice system in the United States, is part of the Community Service Center's monthly discussion series on issues affecting the city of Chicago. The event is free and open to the public.

Ayers will be joined by Sen. Barack Obama, Senior Lecturer in the Law School, who is working to combat legislation that would put more juvenile offenders into the adult system; Randolph Stone, Director of the Mandel Legal Aid Clinic; Alex Correa, a reformed juvenile offender who spent seven years in Cook County Temporary Detention Center; Frank Tobin, a former priest and teacher at the Detention Center who helped Correa; and Willy Baldwin, who grew up in public housing and is currently a teacher at the Detention Center.

The juvenile justice system was founded by Chicago reformer Jane Addams, who advocated the establishment of a separate court system for children which would act like a "kind and just parent" for children in crisis.

One hundred years later, the system is "overcrowded, under-funded, over-centralized and racist," Ayers said.

Michelle Obama, Associate Dean of Student Services and Director of the University Community Service Center, hopes bringing issues like this to campus will open a dialogue between members of the University community and the broader community.

"Students and faculty explore these issues in the classroom, but it is an internal conversation," Obama said. "We know that issues like juvenile justice impact the city of Chicago, this nation and -- directly or indirectly -- this campus. This panel gives students a chance to hear about the juvenile justice system not only on a theoretical level, but from the people who have experienced it."

So what? Ayres is a radical that's mostly reformed. His interview was published in the New York Times on 9/11, which means it took place 9/10 or earlier.. BEFORE the terrorist attacks. Miss Alaska, or Miss Runner-Up, is trying to link Ayres with Bin Laden, thus trying to link Obama with terrorists, i.e. trying to make us think that he really IS an Arab terrorist that's going to be in our White House. THAT's the underlying message.

Ayres set off a couple of small pipe bombs in the 1960s. Bin Laden recruited thousands of Muslims, warped the religion and planned a massive attack on the US that killed 3000 people and injured 10,000 which caused a massive global recession. The two aren't in any way, shape or form connected. I suppose we'll see Miss Alaska trying to use his middle name now... Hussein! Oh no! Hussein! News flash! Obama's father WAS Muslim! Obama is not!

So what? This means Obama lied to to the American people. This was not just a guy in the frickin' neighborhood.

This goes to the heart of Obama's character and judgement.

How would you like it if McCain had the same connections to a former KKK guy?

She's just like Hillary, the real radical hiding behind her husband. Only much, much worse.

Wow...this sure is some radical talk. I mean reforming the juvenile criminal justice system? Man, that sure is out there.

Seriously? They were on the same panel together? This somehow makes them bff?

To me the real story here is that Obama made a bald faced lie when he said Ayers was "just a guy in the hood".

Here's what we know for sure so far:

1. Sat together in board meetings at least six times at the Annenberg Project.
2. Obama praised Ayers' book in the Chicago Tribune.
3. Were on a panel together at the University of Illinois on "Intellectuals".
4. Worked together on a seminar put on by Michelle at U of I.
5. Obama launched his first campaign from Ayer's home.

There's bound to be more.

And then there's the Rezko ticking bomb...

so very desperate...

A person that you meet as you're walking down the street... Sesame Street indeed.

If you lob a brick over a fence and a dog yelps, chances are you hit sump'n. Based on camp Obama's reaction (and the reaction of his apologists), I think we're going to hear a alot of yelpin this week.

you're right... let's waste time talking about a passing associate of Obama's instead of talking about the ISSUES!

it's much more effective for the Republicans... :clap2:

A passing associate who thinks setting bombs and endangering other Americans is what? freedom of expression? great entertainment? a way to get his kicks on a Saturday night? What is it Silence? Somehow I think you wouldn't be so flip if a loved one had been injured or killed by this terrorist.

And until we understand the relationship, we shouldn't minimize it.

Obama: I'll debate John McCain anywhere, anytime.

McCain: How about doing town halls once a week across the nation?

Obama: "Uh, ah, um, that's a, that's a, that's a, that's a distraction. Yes, that's what it is - a distraction!

McCain: Well, maybe every other week.

Obama: You sure are erratic. Besides it's racist to think I can't debate every week.

McCain: My friends, never mind.

That whole nominating an underqualified, extremist rightwing woman in the misguided hope of capitalizing on the female vote not working for you?
