The great society, the moon program and the viet nam war saw our peak in the late 1960's. All of those debts came due and we had a malaise in the 1970's. We went off the final thread to the gold standard from Bretton Woods. Then we started to print money and the social programs expanded like a 30 thousand foot straight up cliff in our budget and deficits. You Progs blew your wad when deficit spending stopped being a positive and eventually became a necessity. You taxed the little guy incredibly. State local, regional and city taxes grew massively as a percentage of income to the peasant. Eventually our companies became more and more not competitive with growing foreign nations and those recovering from WW 2. The steel and auto industries crippled themselves. Yeah Progs good influence for the domestic economy is old and only getting older. We got to many people collecting and many more to come. A stock market collapse is needed. Limits on medical care are needed. I am getting older. That does not help me. We are a soft and spoiled people with a percentage privileged in certain employment while others are not. Back then it was not the pay as much as the taxes. Oh the taxes were far less when all added up from every source whether in front or hidden. If only they'd vote democrat ....please stop right there ..thank you

(*- I count Ike as a Democrat for these purposes, since he had the good sense to NOT try to undo the New Deal)
They had good jobs, they brought home good pay...
And then The Republicans fucked it up, starting with Nixon.
