Miami Elects First Democratic Mayor in 30 Years

Are Democrat idiots still offering sky high inflation, climate change BS, millions of RAPING MURDERING illegals, depraved sicko trans scumbags, sky high taxes, leaders who stumble around and fall over, sky high crime with no bail or jail? Because that didn't work out so well a year ago. :auiqs.jpg:
Yeah, that's why people are voting for Democrats. Sure.

Newsmax has achieved metastasis in your brain, son.

Big loss for MAGA?

36,000 people voted in the race.

Wow

Miami population is around 450,000.

Stunning victory.
Funny you didn't look at how many voted for Mamdani compared to total population of NYC when you were shitting your pants.

I can smell your flop sweat from here.

Nothing to worry about here, ladies and gentlemen. It's just a fluke. It's a complete coincidence that this happened one week after the GOP had to spend millions defending an R+10 seat that Trump won last year by 22 points. People think very highly of the Republican Party right now and Trump is as popular as ever. BIGLY popular!

Eileen Higgins will be the next mayor of the city of Miami, according to a projection from CNN’s Decision Desk, breaking a nearly 30-year Republican streak in holding the nonpartisan seat and giving Democrats another example of strong performance in elections during the first year of President Donald Trump’s second term.

Higgins, a former county commissioner, will defeat city manager Emilio Gonzalez, who was endorsed by Trump. She won Tuesday’s runoff after leading the first round of voting on November 4 with 35% of the vote to Gonzalez’s 19%.

Democrats are already riding a wave of momentum after a dominant performance in November’s off-year elections and over-performing their 2024 results in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, shrinking a 22-point 2024 margin to single digits in a special election last week.

Real executive authority rests with the city manager, who can only serve with the approval of the five-member city commission. That “nonpartisan” commission currently has a stable 3-2 Republican majority.

The mayor may nominate a manager, but the commission decides who ultimately runs the city. Power isn’t shifting in some theatrical way.

Beyond that, the partisan landscape inside the city is very different from the broader county. Miami voters lean blue by registration, with over 61,000 Democrats to roughly 53,000 Republicans. That imbalance has kept the city competitive for Democrats even as Republicans increasingly dominate Miami-Dade County itself.

Americans appear to want to go back to higher inflation, taxes, open borders, and censoring in the media.

And they simply don't get enough of the clown show impeachment trials and lawfare.

So be it.

I think that part of the reason Miami has not turned blue like most other major cities is that their populace are full of refugees from Cuba who hated Socialism because they came here on inner tubes to escape it.

Problem is, that generation I think has more or less died off.
Very true. Those who escaped communism tend to vote Republican. Lots of Vietnamese support Trump as demonstrated during the extremely peaceful protest on Jan. 6th.

Let it be known Miami DemoKKKrats picked the white woman over the POC.
Your focus on gender and race is noted. If you believe that those factors account for the winner's receiving 59% of the vote, that is an odd conclusion to account for the Trump-endorsed candidate losing so badly.

It sure didn't take long for the buyer's remorse to set in. MAGAt candidates have been losing elections BIGLY ever since last year. Looks like voters are not buying these MAGAt lies anymore.

Actually it is a repudiation 47's policies. The Cuban Community in Florida went heavy in for 47 and now they are watching family and friends are sed being forced to leave the country. The now released plans to look at the digital foot print of foreign tourists will back fire as well. Florida does huge tourist trade because of Epcot Center, Disneyland in Orlando and of course the beaches.

47 screwed the pooch on this bigly.

I'll never understand why the parties just can't learn. They're as much the reason the other party won, as is the party that won.

Maybe each should stop pretending that every win is a ******* mandate to shove their entire agenda down our throats.

Got your finger on the pulse of Miami politics, huh? LOL
Such a dramatic shift after three decades of Republican rule is consistent with the electorate's widespread disenchantment with Trumpery.

Trumpstink has pervaded the GOP.

This mayoral upset only reflects what is happening nationwide. Any candidates running for public office anymore who are tainted by the stench of Trump and MAGA are destined to lose, and lose BIGLY.
Like, by 15 to 20 points or more.
MAGA has had a decent run but the cult is in decline now. The Trump train is off the rails and headed for the ultimate trainwreck. Moderate Republicans are the future of the party now. Extremist whackos are on their way out.
