MI: Unions praise Whitmer for signing Right to Work repeal, prevailing wage restoration bills

‘Unions and other pro-labor groups on Friday celebrated the signing of a set of bills to reverse GOP former Gov. Rick Snyder-era laws that have curtailed union power and pushed down wages.

Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Friday afternoon signed House Bills 4004 and 4007 and Senate Bill 34. HB 4004 repeals Right to Work for public-sector employees, while SB 34 does the same for private-sector workers. HB 4007 restores the practice of prevailing wage into law.

“These bills will protect health and safety, ensuring healthcare workers can put patient care ahead of profit, construction workers can speak up when there’s a safety issue, and employees can call attention to food safety threats and other problems,” Whitmer said in a statement. “Let’s continue delivering for working people and ensuring Michigan is open for business.”

With her signature, Michigan is now the first state in nearly 60 years to repeal any Right to Work laws. The 2012 laws, which were highly controversial, allowed workers to get all union benefits without having to pay dues.

Its passage in the GOP-led Legislature drew a crowd of roughly 12,000 protesters. It also contained an appropriation, rendering citizens unable to repeal it.

In 2018, the GOP-led Legislature also approved an initiative repealing prevailing wage for contracted workers on state projects.’

Very good.

This is insane.

When you are born, especially in the US, you are born FREE, not as a SLAVE.

IN Michigan, however, when you ate born or move there THE UNIONS OWN YOUR ASS.

Joining a Union should be a CHOICE, not a mandate.

What exactly is a right-to-work state?

On Dec. 11, 2012, Michigan became the 24th state in the U.S. to adopt right-to-work legislation, which stipulates employees can't be required to join (or not join) a labor union as a condition of employment. They also can't be required to shell out dues to a labor union.

Proponents say businesses are more likely to locate in states with right-to-work laws, thus creating more jobs. Further, they note people should have both the freedom to join a union, and the freedom to decline to do so. Unions also raise labor costs to tbe poi t where products / services cost more than (fair) market value.

Unions argue that unless workers are FORCED to join unions lower membership weakens union power

And

- If workers are not FORCED to pay dues they reap the benefits of unions without paying into them

** Unions forget to mention how Union bosses / Unions scam money from the workers for themselves AND workers' money is used to (bribe / buy) donate to Democrat politicians.

Forcing Ameicans to join unions to get jobs, stripping Americans of the right to get jobs without joining unions is a form of slavery.

It was fascinating to see not only Whitmer, the lockdown queen, get re-elected last November but to see Michigan voters also give Democrats both houses of the state legislature. As well as codify mail-in ballots and drop boxes.

Stockholm Syndrome writ large.
Dana Nessel, the attorney general, and the person that was supposed to look into the corrupt company that fouled up James Craig's nomination drive, colluded with Whitmer, to make sure that Craig would not be on the ballot.

Craig did not particularly care for either Trump nor Biden, Michigan is a purple state, it believes both parties are mostly silly. It isn't extreme. Craig would have swept her out of office, I believe. The uni-party, could not have him get the GOP nomination. It had to make sure to get an extreme righty to get the nomination, so the Whitmer could keep her seat. If pro-gun, pro-business, anti-crime, black Detroit police cheif got the GOP nomination? He would have united the Detriot blacks, and rural whites in the state. IOW? unbeatable.

The AG never investigated that corruption, mostly, IMO, because she and Whitmer were part of it.

(IMO, Stockholm had not a damn thing to do with it. I stayed home.)

Yes....they repeal the "Right to Work," and enforce you can't work unless you join a union....

To repeat....you will not be allowed to work....allowed to work, unless you join a union.....that supports the democrat party......

that makes perfect sense to a leftist moron..............

So........you must join a public employee union....who gives your dues to the democrat party.........

Yes...fascism is your goal...

Yes....but their non vote....made them feel really, really good about themselves.....as the democrats remain in power to destroy and wreck and cause misery...but they feel really good about not voting.....

Voting for the lesser of two evils makes sense...since not voting gives the greater evil a chance to win....

So not oting was a vote for someone? You cannot be serious.

Hmmmmm...

2 votes for a democrat

1 vote for a republican

1 who would have voted for the republican but wanted to feel superior so didn't vote at all...

Who wins that election?

So you want people laboring for $20 per hour? Working hard for that? That anti american

I had no desire to vote for a porn adjacent horror actress.

I know a shill when I see one.

I am telling you, what the results of these misguided policies will be, on the macro level.
Yep, the same "misguided policies" in place while all that infrastructure you depict magically got built in the first place along with the strong, middle class workforce of our parents generation.

You hold strong opinions, beliefs, convictions, that you like to broadcast publicly as though they represented established facts. Nothing original about you there. But quoting prototypical, pinko communists for back up? That is quite unique here. And weird. Nonetheless, Michigan is typical in terms of "Right to work" law experience and you're obviously simply blowing gas just like your fact allergic ilk here.

If I could "have a baby" but knew I couldn't raise it properly and that no family or loved ones could at the time either, then having the option to delay parenthood and abort the fetus sure would be nice. Then again, I could still choose not to have an abortion. Just like you.

Don't like abortion? Don't have one! Other than your gigantic ego, what "empowers" you to choose for all other women?

Unique human DNA and a heartbeat

It is not ethical and should therefore not be legal to kill humans with unique DNA and a heartbeat, especially for convenience.
Seems about half of mammals "with unique DNA and a heartbeat", including primates, disagree.. and that's killing their born offspring, not just their fetuses. "For convenience"? Ask a lion for its opinion of your ignorant opinion on that.

Of course, ‘right to work’ is a lie.

It’s the right to low wages.

The right to no benefits.

The right to be terminated for any meritless, capricious reason.

And the right of employers to abuse and exploit employees.
I am a union carpenter, now retired. Wisconsin passed a right to work law about 10 years ago. It did not affect my union AT ALL.

Right to work laws are DESIGNED to drive labor rates down.

If you favor lower labor rates then sure… support right to work
How does it do that? It passed in Wisconsin 12 years ago, and my union continues to get wage increases.

The purpose is to drive non-union labor rates down. Your union likely performs highly skilled work so remains highly competitive.
