Utah governor signs collective bargaining ban for teachers, firefighters and police unions

Most find the job of teaching very worth while.

Different people have different measurements of "worth".

Blues said that in NJ teachers make $100K plus, not around here. Not because the job is that much different, but because of variations in geographical cost of living.

WW
The Money a person earns is measured as a unit of time.

A Doctor makes more than a Teacher. Because his or her time is worth more. And before we start talking about edumucashun..... A Plumber makes more than a Teacher because his time is worth more. So does an Electrician. So do most Tradesmen.

This all goes out the window when we get into Sports and Entertainment. That is a Market Based evaluation and it makes no sense to man nor beast.

As an example, it takes Generic Motors very little more time (measured in Man-Hours) to make a Pickup than it does to make a Corvette. The materials are quite close in cost as well

But a Corvette costs nearly twice as much. Why? Because they can get it. A Market-Based principle. What the Market will bear. Corvettes are few and far between and they are meant to show a lifestyle but are pretty much useless otherwise. Shiny. Like a Silver and Diamond Bracelet. But relatively useless. Or, in the cases of shiny, completely useless.

You go down the Automobile line-up just a bit and those Cars like the Ford Escape, the Rav4, Nissan, Honda C- whatever ......

Those are "Cost-Based" vehicles. The vast overwhelming majority are. Ford, Honda, GM, Toy-Odor etc know exactly how much it costs to make those vehicles, to the penny, and they price them accordingly. They need to make xx% profit or they'll lose money.

You and I are also Cost-Based. I can't sing or dance and I can't run faster than light or dunk a B-Ball from Half-Court and while I am stunningly handsome If I do say so myself :) ), I can't act and I don't play well with others. Not much of a Stand-Up Comedian either, but I have been known to try depending on the amount of alcohol I've consumed.

I suspect that fairly describes you as well, more or less.

Point being, if someone wants to make money, Teaching is not the path to choose. If Teachers didn't know that going in, then they are too stupid to be allowed around children. Which, to be honest, most of them are anyway.

So if they, or you, wants more money. Here's a thought. Try a profession that pays more. But be forewarned, they often require this thing called 'production'. Something the Teaching profession has no clue about.

What your Unions did during the 50's through the 70's was very sad to see. Yes, there were other factors but a huge contributor was Unions. Iron Pants saved the UK. Believe it. Otherwise, it might very well be Airstrip One today.

I miss Triumph, MG, MGB, Austin Healy (loved the 3000) etc. Ford bought several brands and saved them. I think they lost money on them but at least they're still around. Can't say that for Rolls.

You might be too young. Ireland is doing fairly well on paper. Much of that wealth is Corporate trickeration (American football word) however
That cow Thatcher did more damage to UK industry than the Luftwaffe and Gestapo management she encouraged she waged war on workers and we still suffer from it to this day.

In the USA government employees have it far better than private enterprise employees. They are essentially fire-proof, have outstanding pensions that often start as early as fifty years of age, their salaries are far better than private employees. All of that comes from sweetheart deals with bribed politicians. The taxpayers are never represented at public employee bargaining tables, only the politicians and the employees who bribe them with campaign contributions.
You use the word bribe a lot did you make that up? you talk about pensions as if the workers don't contribute to pensions, i have an idea scrap public services and see what happens.

We just gave our teachers a 7 percent raise across the board.

People should get retirement benefits while working. The private sector should do better. None of this is any kind of issue.

I lived through it so i know what i am talking about, at the time i had just started a retail business that Cow almost doubled VAT from 8% to 15% on the stock i was buying from my supplier nearly put me out of business before i got started, the only business she was interested in was large corporate companies.

They are tax-takers. They bribe politicians with campaign contributions to raise their salaries and benefits far above those in the private sectors. It's an incestuous relationship.
Thats an interesting view of police, ambulance drivers, paramedics, fire, bus drivers, city works maintenance etc.

Please don't use the term ambulance drivers. They don't exist anymore. They are either emergency medical technicians or paramedics. My daughter is a paramedic. When she first drove the ambulance, she was an EMT.
