In a sense, I think Ocasio-Cortez and Trump are two sides of the same coin (No, I'm not saying that Trump is as dumb as she is, so calm down). They both represent the irritation and frustration of their rank-and-file against the old-guard Establishment of their party. Grass-roots Republicans were sick and tired of being handed whichever mealy-mouthed miquetoast was "next in line" as a candidate, regardless of whether or not they had a hope in Hell of winning or any ability to actually do the things people wanted. And so they elected Trump, who - whatever his faults - is certainly not meek.
Likewise, a lot of Democrats (particularly the younger ones) were outraged at the way the establishment in their party shafted Bernie Sanders in the election, and more outraged to realize their party was specifically set up to allow their wishes to be ignored. Ta daaahh! Now we have Ocasio-Cortez on the horizon, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of other surprise upsets around the country.
I think Trump and Ocasio-Cortez both represent the id on their respective sides of the aisle, the desire to just lash out and say whatever comes to mind, irrespective of whether or not it's a bad idea.
