(Medicaid is) "Not for Twenty-nine Year Old Males Sitting on their Couch Playing Video Games." At Last, a Senior Republican says . . .

services are paid for by public funds but not directly coordinated to our taxes. The function of government is to provide for the public good. They maintain a currency and money so we can engage in commerce. They build roads and bridges so we can commute. They provide mail service for communication, law enforcement for protection, schools for education, etc etc etc. all of these things are to promote and support the economy, activity, and growth of our civilization. The government is not a for profit entity. It makes time of money off the resources and services it provides and those funds are to go back in to keep the system flowing.

That’s why when I ask you specifically how much in taxes you’re paying for somebody’s $100k hospital bill that’s Uncle Sam picked up, you can’t give me a number,

Money is a game of numbers at the national level. You understand that, right?
A very serious game, yes.

What is the point of that post?

The point is that not every dollar spent by the government comes out of tax payers pockets
Yes, actually, it does.

The government has no other source of revenue.

President Trump is trying to change that. You should applaud him for it.

After all, the first piece of advice from any financial consultant is "diversify".

I’m sure the large percentage of 29 year olds who are paraplegics will be protected from cuts, lest the Democrats wheel them in front of a camera for a tear/filled 10 second PSA style campaign ad.

For what it is worth, there are plenty of jobs that paraplegics can do. Perhaps the federal government should have recruited them for desk jobs, instead of insisting on non-binary partner-free birthing person of color.

Why didn’t that 29-year-old paraplegic that You are so concerned about apply for “remote work” with uncle Sam?
what do you call a paraplegic in a swimming pool? Bob
one on your front porch? Matt
Hanging on the wall? Art

What the?

What gives you the idea that I am on Social Security? Or that I never paid for it?

Childish. I am not on Social Security, and since I understand that when you work, you cannot collect Social Security I doubt I ever will.

But I’ve been paying through the notes for Social Security for over 30 years.

I understand you need to dodge the point.

LOL, claims to know Social Security and yet says "...since I understand that when you work, you cannot collect Social Security..."

You can work and collect Social Security, if you are prior to FRA (Full Retirement Age), your SS is reduced based on other income. But once you reach FRA, you can work all you want for as much as you want without any reduction in SS.

. . . the part that should have never been quiet out loud.

Work requirements for Medicaid. According to Johnson that idea has has 90% approval. Why it isn't 99%, I attribute to the large percentage of people who are net takers of taxes.

Is that the "cuts to Medicaid" that Democrats are so afraid of? Work requirements?

Of course it is. Democrats don't want work requirements for federal "workers," why would they want it for Medicaid dolees?

Correct....Democrats realize that the welfare state is their foundation constituency. Any attack on it forces their minions to think.
29 year old video game players in mommy's basement need food stamps, free doctors and a stipend to buy more video game stuff! A perfect democrat voter. Unburdened by what has been! Joy!

I am long past retirement age and still working full-time quite vigorously. There really is no reason to put off collecting SS benefit as long as you are of full retirement age. I have no plans to stop working, It doesn't make any sense to me. The government took almost $300 out of my last paycheck for the social security contribution. I'm fine with that.

It's good to remember though that all income adds up to taxable so you do have to look at the totals. If you are receiving Medicare a married couple can make up to $225,000 ( total) without suffering any rate increases.. after that you are looking at a new ball game. Aside from that I also have income properties.

I never tried to guess these things on my own because the rules change every year... I see an accountant every 3 months both to review past income and forecast future income. He usually maps out the next steps for me so that I don't run afoul of the tax brackets.

I highly recommend anyone doing what I'm doing make that a habit. I've seen too many people wait till the last minute and end up owing the government tens of thousands of dollars that they don't have.

I doubt there are many if any, 29 year old males, sitting at home playing video games, given medicaid....the requirements to qualify don't allow it. And single 29 year old males are likely not sick, and wouldn't need it or even think about needing it. My state doesn't allow it....and I would imagine most states wouldn't.

You've been given as a talking point of waste and abuse by the 29 yr old male gamer, that doesn't even occur in any kind of numbers to amount to anything in savings.

I'm all for cutting that person off, if he even exists....but that is not who slashing Medicaid will affect...it will affect Trumper states, whose voters are the working poor....West Virginia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama etc, the most....the working poor, and children....

Such a person would most likely be seriously disabled. If not it would be a fraudulent case of which there are many. I know of numerous such cases. Everything you said is correct The only thing you're missing is the cognizance of the enormity of the fraud that exists.

The fraud exists, but it comes MOSTLY from healthcare companies, defrauding medicaid....that's where the big dollar fraud comes from. Has that been addressed or even talked about? Nope! Protect the businesses who defraud Medicaid and medicare....Rick Scott ran one of these fraudulent companies that was actually caught a few years back...

Yes the clerical crime is enormous and is most likely the main component. Going over to a blockchain system that ties the data and the payments together would pretty much eliminate 99.9% of it. You can't get all of it but you can come close.

Good to know, and I never claimed to "know Social Security."

I’m all for helping the jobless get jobs and the poor get rich. It’s what our country is all about. But that because a very unlikely possibility if a person is crippled with bankruptcy, no credit, and dept that could last a lifetime of your plan goes into place.

Or are you under the illusion that taking people off Medicaid will magically make all of them find work and successful careers?
The poor aren't going to get rich. The middle class are never going to get rich. That's nonsense. 50 thousand dollars per year is "poor" today. Wages are very low and will never catch up.

What is blockchain? Can you explain how it works, for a Dummy, like me...?

Well I'm certainly no expert on it.
Here's what I know about it.

It is a secure way to communicate financial transactions that is basically unhackable.
Each leg of the communication chain has a unique interface code with the next that is never duplicated. This makes it impossible to interrupt the chain in the middle and continue on to the end transaction unless it's from the origin.

That type of payment system should help eliminate layers of fraudulent transaction additions to the billing process because it either starts from the beginning or doesn't start at all.

That won't stop people from lying about services rendered but it will make it impossible for anyone to lie and get away with it.

It's a way of encrypting data that prevents tampering. For example creating fictitious entries in a accounting or changing entries after the fact.

Problem is it won't do anything for Medicaid/Medicare fraud as the vast majority of those are not "creative accounting", they are submissions for reimbursement for overcharging services or for charging services that were never performed.
