I am always amazed by this right-wing obsession with Chicago. Every since Obama won legitimately (unlike Trump) they've been sitting there, mouth agape, reacting a Negro in the White House the way they'd react to a negro dating their daughter.

Chicago only has high numbers because it's such a large city. In terms of crime rates, it's far below murder rates in Red State cities.

The National Guard would only get involved in cases of serious felonies. For anything less, they remained observant until the police arrived. If a serious felony was in progress, they would intervene—but they wouldn’t make arrests. Instead, they would detain the suspect until law enforcement arrived to formally arrest the individual and read them their rights.

They Would not act as police officers; they function as guards. When it comes to intervention, anyone can do that—you don’t have to be a police officer to intervene in a felony. Citizens have done it from time to time. But only intervene if you have the ability to do so; otherwise, you might get shot.

When I was in the real world, my primary duty was that of an electronics technician. As an alternate duty, I volunteered for and was trained as a Security Police augmentee, a role I served in until I reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and was no longer qualified. I was trained specifically to function as a guard.

In about 30 minutes, I was qualified to serve in that capacity. My duties were simple: I was issued an M16 and a radio. I was assigned to guard an aircraft. I was briefed and given the usual radio protocols. I had to make periodic status reports and was provided with a code word to indicate I needed an immediate response from the reaction team. I was encouraged to call for help if I suspected anything out of the ordinary.

Are you telling me the average National Guard troop lacks the ability to do that?
