Good thing to hold in your memory.

It's rare when we get along with one another. There are so many long term family feuds here because the two groups can't get along.

It is said that when the RCC calls its children home the Lutherans will be the first to arrive.

Are Jews bad parents. Are their children "denied the wonder and enjoyment of Santa Claus???
The Jews enjoy their own delightful holiday traditions that may or may not include Santa Claus that is viewed by most Christians, probably most Jews and others as a secular figure.

My point is that I personally would not consider it kind or beneficial to deny children all the wonder of the Biblical Christmas stories AND the harmless but delightful traditions built up around the myths and imaginary figures and symbols of Christmas like Christmas trees and Santa Claus. I would never judge any parent for his/her choice in such matters, but I would feel sorry for the child denied/disallowed that fun and joy.

We shouldn't leave out the part about Herod killing the children either.

That is definitely part of the Christmas narrative as written in the Gospel of Matthew in which there is no mention of choruses of angels or visitation by shepherds. There is no mention of Herods evil plot, the star over Bethlehem, or the Magi in the Christmas narrative as written in the Gospel of Luke. Christians have long taken aspects of both narratives and combined them into our modern day traditions and imagery.

Children care quite capable of handling stories of trolls and goblins and wicked witches and evil kings and the brave and/or innovative champions who overcome or outsmart them.

Would not surprise me. I make a 25-30 mile drive to grocery shop on Sunday morning, and the radio station I listen to in the car broadcasts the services of two Lutheran Churches, and I have no trouble following along with the liturgy and the responses. I'd probably be very comfortable at a Lutheran service.

As it happens, we are not the children of Israel.
We are Christians and have our own holidays.
Zebra,......What happened to The House of Yisrael, after the Assyrians conquered it & carried it off in to Slavery?

Secondly,..... With the majority of the thousands of Widely Different in Belief "Christian Sects", in Today's World, now accepting "Faggotry", "Sexual Immorality", "Abortion", ... Simply put "Walking with the World",.......How can "Christianity" Truly Proclaim Lord!, when it rejects His Teachings?!"

Your "Holidays", are nothing more than repackaged "Pagan Holidays" that You Zealously keep, while proclaiming Your Righteousness.

"Christianity"& "Judaism",.... Is Walking the same path, that The Children of Yisrael did, which drew the Wrath of YAHWEH.

Under the Puritans, Christmas was verboten …..

I doubt if Christmas and Easter cause people to fall away from their faith. Truth is that these pagan celebrations have been "Christianized", not the other way around. Recall that Jesus said, "Those who are not against us are for us." That said there are falsehoods within these holidays, but many Christians are fully aware of them. In fact, we argue them on these boards nearly every season.

I recently debunked "the Star of Bethlehem" idea by showing that the star never 'stood' over the manger where Jesus was born.

With that Mindset,..... Then the Yisraelites that sacrificed their children to Moloc, Worshiped the trees, worshiped Baal, etc., unfairly suffered the Wrath of YAH.

Catholics and Lutherans -- possibly others -- have a tradition of blessing their homes on the Eve of Epiphany by chalking above the door the year and three initials and four crosses. This year, the blessing will read:

20+C+M+B+26

The C, M and B are the initials of the Magi, Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar. Some folks believe they mean "Christus mansionem benedicat", which is "Christ bless this house" in Latin.

I am going to enjoy sharing this tradition this year with my best friend, who is a Lutheran, as we continue to share our traditions with one another.

If there are not enough priests who can chalk all the doors of the parish, the head of the house can use a piece of chalk blessed by a priest.
Now is the day!
