Indeed, after all my years of military service I just jump at the opportunity to report something negative about the U.S. Military. Marines and former Marines everywhere (like myself) are in disbelief. Should we not be? Why, for example, isn't FAST Company sitting on the top of the Embassy and giving the local muhamaddans the finger?

If those weapons had US serial numbers they were Department Of The Navy property. They were to be palatized and returned to the unit armory. It's possible this is part of a UN treaty preventing weapons from being transported anywhere by US personnel.
