How do you believe this incident should have been handled? Guns to the head, scoop him up and haul him out, or assess the situation to determine what appropriate actions to take?

Marine with PTSD from Battle of Fallujah arrested for wearing tactical vest at movie theater

"A Marine vet who wore a black tactical vest -what the local media is calling a ‘bullet proof vest” to the movies is speaking out about the incident that landed him in jail for five days.

John Casiday spent this past weekend behind bars, after a scare at the Cinemark 14 movie theater in Redding, California Friday night. Frightened movie goers called police when they saw Casiday wearing a “bulletproof vest”.

Tuesday, the Iraq war vet pleaded not guilty at his arraignment inside a Shasta County courtroom. Casiday was actually arrested for obstructing an officer and carrying a concealed dagger– a misdemeanor."

They obviously had probable cause to question him. Whether or not he should have gone to jail I suppose is a matter of how he responded.

Given the horrific theater shooting in Colorado Gunman turns 'Batman' screening into real-life 'horror film' - CNN.com , Germany German theater shooting, and a plethora of recent shootings in crowded public areas where innocent civilians were targeted, I think we're a little too traumatized to be concerned with showing a suspect respect and patience. I don't think anyone presenting a plausible threat in a crowded public environment deserves anything but a quick and aggressive take down.

I'm sorry that this case involved a former marine who got PTSD serving in Iraq. But imo, we are way beyond the point of approaching a public threat with consideration for politeness or respect shown to the possible perpetrator of mass violence.

Besides, it's not exactly unheard of to have members of the U.S. Armed Forces engage in unlawful behavior.

Were people attacked by people wearing TACTICAL VESTS?

Jayzus people are stupid.

The Marine was NOT arrested for wearing a tactical vest! According to the link:

"Tuesday, the Iraq war vet pleaded not guilty at his arraignment inside a Shasta County courtroom. Casiday was actually arrested for obstructing an officer and carrying a concealed dagger– a misdemeanor."

Bad thread title.

IMHO, wearing a tactical vest is not sufficient "probable cause".

Of course it's not. The idea is ridiculous.

If the theatre owner and his staff were armed, they wouldn't have been worried about it. Hysterical retards....flinchy and scared as a result of their own stupidity.

Why anybody would go to a shooting gallery..I mean movie theatre....is beyond me.
This sarcasm? The odds of getting shot in a movie theatre are like 1 in probably 50million movies.

There are probably better odds that you swallow a tooth on accident and choke and die.

I'm thinking he may have brain damage due to the missing pieces of his skull from combat. He clearly needs help with some things.

Strange part is, he got in to the theater and in to his seat just fine while wearing the tactical vest. It wasn't until he had to pee that people starting freaking out.

Jayzus people are stupid.

So if you saw a guy walk into a movie theater, or any other public arena where unarmed civilians gather, wearing a tactical vest you would just shrug it off as nothing to worry about since a weapon wasn't openly visible? How frequent or normal is it to see a civilian wearing a tactical vest to go watch a movie? How difficult is it to conceal weapons? He obviously successfully hid one weapon.

But you think, in light of everything, the best approach is to wait until you see a gun?

In one case you condemn people for unfounded paranoia based on prior shootings but then you use the prior shootings as a basis for your argument to not worry about a guy in a tactical vest because "Were people attacked by people wearing TACTICAL VESTS?"

You're right, that is stupid.

Agreed, he needs and deserves help but my response was to your question of how the incident should have initially been handled. Lots of people, even convicted criminals, need and deserve help. But that comes after the arrest, when an interview/interrogation takes place to determine motives and any underlying issues.

But may I ask where the referenced article stated this guy was missing pieces of his skull from combat?

Your thread is self-contradictory. According to the title of your thread: “Marine with PTSD from Battle of Fallujah arrested for wearing tacticle vest at movie theater.” However when you quote from the link you say, “Tuesday, the Iraq war vet pleaded not guilty at his arraignment inside a Shasta County courtroom. Casiday was actually arrested for obstructing an officer and carrying a concealed dagger [NOT for wearing a tactical vest] – a misdemeanor"
(explanatory insertion my own).

Well, you accomplished one thing with your misleading thread title. You proved that at least some people on this forum will comment on a thread without bothering to read it. Great job on that one.

KG doesn't have teeth anymore. Worrying about dying in a shooting gallery is the next closest thing.

I absolutely disagree. Wearing a tactical vest to a movie theater is definitely probable cause and flat out common sense.

If any article of clothing "frightens" you, you've got issues.....

Are these pants probable cause too?
