It will. the failing of all these policies is the assumption by progressives that criminals are just like they are because they are disadvantaged.

They ignore the cold reality that some people are just lazy assholes and crime is an easy way to make money and get shit.

The politicians are lazy and short sighted. They hear the voices of liberals and progressives insisting that the criminal justice system is “racist” Incarcerating those convicted is like “slavery,” they get told. So, they lean into that pablum puke.

But do they pay any attention to the real world or bother to think like non-pandering adults? No. They sure don’t. If they did they could have easily foreseen the outcome of their implementation of new social justice warrior initiatives.

Decarceration and “no cash bail” translates into more of the bad guys out on the streets doing what they do to the non criminal citizens.

Decisions not to prosecute offenders — in crimes (like shoplifting) — creates more crime; this entails more crime victims such as store owners who can’t pay their overheads without raising prices. So, all of us end up paying for the stolen merchandise by higher prices. it also emboldens the criminals sufficiently so that they have no fear of committing even more such crimes.

“Defund the police” say the lunatic progressive activists. Sure. No problem, until the increasing crime rate and lower police staffing means no police to respond to calls for help. Who pays the most for that? The crime victims. Ironically, the victims tend to be in lower socioeconomic neighborhoods, so the poorer folks get the brunt of the consequences of defunding their police.

All of these consequences are and were perfectly predictable. But not by our mindless, craven, gutless pols.

Ultimately, it’s our fault. Collectively, “we” elect them and allow them to stay in office.

I also once heard that (for the most part) felons ought to be sentenced to prison.

But now I see! If felons get sentenced to prisons and prison is a little inconvenient, then what kind of monsters are WE?

There is a little know secret to prison, if you don't want to go in one then don't break the law. If you are atleast a half way decent human being you'll never have to be in a prison.

I work in Manhattan, so that means some guy can mug me on the subway and unless he is really really violent, he would get a most a fine and maybe probation.
