After the law enforcement crackdown in the early and mid-90's (for which Joe Biden has since apologized), more Bad Guys were sent to prison for drug-related and violent crimes. Leftists marveled at the reduction in crime rates - oblivious to the fact that it was the result of thousands of Bad Guys being removed from the streets. In recent years that crackdown has been termed "Mass Incarceration," which is a myth. Every single person incarcerated was found guilty in a trial (actually, more than 90% of them PLED GUILTY). There was and is no such thing as Mass Incarceration.

Now we have a national movement to release offenders earlier, grant bail more often and more leniently, and generally let more and more Bad Guys out on the street. And the homicide rate goes up.

It has nothing to do with "defund the police." Police don't prevent homicides generally; they just come in and clean up the mess.

It's just a matter of the number of Bad Guys "we" allow to remain on the streets. You want an end to "Mass Incarceration"? The price will be a surge in homicides and other violent crimes. Start enforcing the law again, untie the hands of Police, and the violent crime rates will again start to trend downward. It has nothing to do with the race of the Mayor or the Chief of Police.

I cynically add, the "good" thing here is that violent crime tends to stay within its own community. Black lives matter? Not hardly.

1. George Floyd.

2. Cops taking a hands-off approach to law enforcement.

3. Gang members shooting each other with impunity.
