Manchin warns Democrats: Hit 'pause' on Biden's $3.5T plan

Impossible. All spending bills MUST originate in the House.
Not true. All revenue bills must originate in the House, but spending reconciliation bills may originate in the Senate. Hence Pelosi's statement that the House will pass whatever they get from the Senate instead of writing their own spending bill.

I've never known Manchin to do anything that wasn't self-serving. His current TV ads are saying that "Joe Manchin has moved mountains for West Virginians". Well, that is literally true - because he's a big proponent of Mountaintop Removal coal mining.

Inflation is not an issue here.

Reproductive rights and election rights ARE
The economy (which is affected by this record inflation) is ALWAYS a top issue with voters. Record inflation isn’t going to sell well to the public, no matter how much Dems want to deflect from it.

I think Sen Sinema from AZ is also against that much spending, and maybe a few others that don't have the balls to say so. BUT - one wonders just how much spending they'll end up supporting, maybe not $3.5 tril but $2.5 tril? And for what? What gets dropped from their bill and what doesn't? AND - what are the House progressives going to do if the Senate passes a much smaller spending bill? Pelosi said the House would pass whatever they get from the Senate, but one wonders if that's true if the spending is drastically reduced. Will the House renege on their promise to vote on the bipartisan infrastructure around the end of Sept like they said they would? Remember, Pelosi promised the House moderates she would do that in exchange for their support of the $3.5 tril budget agreement a week or two back? Curious and curiouser.

Things could get very dicey on their side of the aisle.

BTW, cheers for Manchin to introduce some sanity in our gov't spending.
Two years.

The majority of the people of this country will side with Manchin, it’s the economy that the wins and loses votes. 2022 could go Republican easily if the Dems screw it up.
Problem with DSA type posters is that they think Manchin is the enemy because he is trying to keep the Democratic Party from throwing itself off the cliff while the DSA ( Democratic Socialist of America ) believe going off the cliff will win them votes…

Sad thing is Manchin is the last of his kind in either political party…

Well, Well, Well, looks like it's not smooth sailing for the democrats and their
social dreams.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said Democrats should hit "pause" on President Biden’s $3.5 trillion spending package, firing a significant warning shot at his party’s top legislative priority.

Manchin, during remarks this week at a West Virginia Chamber of Commerce event pointed to concerns about “runaway inflation,” the delta variant of the coronavirus and a botched withdrawal in Afghanistan to float slowing down what is the centerpiece of Biden's economic agenda.

"If the country is facing what we're facing now. ... I would ask my colleagues and all of the Senate to hit the pause button on the $3.5 [trillion]," Manchin said at the event on Wednesday. "Let’s sit back. Let’s see what happens. We have so much on our plate. We really have an awful lot. I think that would be the prudent, wise thing to do."

"I know they're going to go nuts right now ... because what I said is going to all my caucus in Washington," Manchin added, referring to his Democratic colleagues. "But I'm thinking of it from the standpoint of where we are as a nation today."
The interesting question is, will House and Senate Democrats vote for the bipartisan bill on Sept 27th? Will they stiff the American people and bipartisanship if they don't get their way on everything? Does bipartisanship only mean if you get everything you want? If not, then screw bipartisanship and screw the American people?

It looks like Democrats in the House will kill Biden's infrastructure plan if the Senate doesn't approve the $3.5T bill.
If the Senate does not pass the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill it will be because of Democrats in the Senate, Manchin, Sinema, as well as others possibly.

Progressives are the Democrats responsible for the election of Trump in 2016. Now they seem bent on causing a Democratic defeat in the Presidential election in 2024.

He's smart enough to recognize that his fake prez and party of fascist lunatics are in freefall, an have no political capital.

Printing up another $6 trillion in fake value has no popular support from democrat voters who haven't totally lost their minds.....Which obviously excludes you.

Really? Show us polls that support that claim

6 trillion?

You did not read my quote. My concern is the infrastructure bill.

Did you know the Republican Party strongly favors infrastructure spending?

I am not in favor of the $3.5T reconciliation bill.

Next time read before opening your mouth.

The budget and fake "infrastructure" bill are hooked....The real number of the pair is well in excess of $6 trillion, when all is said and done.....Like with everything else, you gaslighting leftists lie about how much everything will end up costing, and I strongly suspect that even the $6 trillion price tag is lowball.

And I don't give a flying fuck about what republican hacks like McTurtle, Lady Lindsey, and Mittens support....It's RINO assholes like them who chased me out of the party back in the 1990s.

You're a seriously poor propagandist.

Bullshit. You're still a Republican. Just an extremist right wing Republican
