The repub party will die if the popular vote elects the President. The electoral college was put in place when the counting of the popular vote took weeks and transportation was horseback. It is outmoded.
The irony is that getting rid of the EC might actually benefit Republicans – it would compel them to be more competitive in all 50 states, rather than being a minority party that controls most of the states with small populations.

The state where Trump garnered the most votes was California.

Sorry Jim but this one I will disagree with you on.

What need to be done is passing a law that everyone must vote ( legal citizen only ) or pay a one thousand dollar fine!

Then you will see things change!

Also our voice is the House and not the President, so no I wouldn’t change the voting way to elect the nimrod that will sit in the Oval Office!

So, you don't like minorities? Oh yeah, wrong politics.
The Senate is likewise vital to Republican minority rule – where control of the Senate is determined by the states, not the people.

Again, Republicans should abandon their goal of minority rule – where Republicans are elected president having lost the popular vote and Republicans control the Senate contrary to the will of the majority of the people – and try to appeal to the American people as a whole.

I'm not a Republican and I support it the way it is now. That said, those who want to change it know how to do so but for whatever reason never try.
Every other national office...House and Senate and even Governors on thr state level is elected by popular vote. Only the President is elected by the out of date electoral college.

I Googled why the EC was created. Interesting...

The electoral college was created due to the fact that the Founding Fathers did not trust the average American citizen to have any political knowledge.

Me too...But I didn't use GOOGLE.

Dealing with the question of the constitutional status of the electors, the Court said in 1890: “The sole function of the presidential electors is to cast, certify and transmit the vote of the State for President and Vice President of the nation. Although the electors are appointed and act under and pursuant to the Constitution of the United States, they are no more officers or agents of the United States than are the members of the state legislatures when acting as electors of federal senators, or the people of the States when acting as electors of representatives in Congress. . . . In accord with the provisions of the Constitution, Congress has determined the time as of which the number of electors shall be ascertained, and the days on which they shall be appointed and shall meet and vote in the States, and on which their votes shall be counted in Congress; has provided for the filling by each State, in such manner as its legislature may prescribe, of vacancies in its college of electors; and has regulated the manner of certifying and transmitting their votes to the seat of the national government, and the course of proceeding in their opening and counting them.”106 The truth of the matter is that the electors are not “officers” at all, by the usual tests of office.

107 They have neither tenure nor salary, and having performed their single function they cease to exist as electors.

This function is, moreover, “a federal function,”108 because electors’ capacity to perform results from no power which was originally resident in the states, but instead springs directly from the Constitution of the United States.109

In the face of the proposition that electors are state officers, the Court has upheld the power of Congress to act to protect the integrity of the process by which they are chosen.110 But, in Ray v. Blair,111 the Court reasserted the conception of electors as state officers, with some significant consequences.

I don't see a system where a candidate only has to pay attention to maybe 4-5 states as something positive.

The repub party will never let it happen. They have been ruling as a Minority for years.
hmmm, there was a time when the democratic party was/were the defenders of the constitution...
...we are a constitutional democracy because majority democracies had too many short comings not least of which was minority rights that were never addressed...
...the constitutions intent is to level the playing field between minority and majority, it has only since PC has infected the party that minority rights have been shelved [except of course when they are being weaponized].

When we had the unrest in the Summer '20...

It was quite clear that the people upset are voting wise the lowest representation...

They are in a lot of cases having there congressional district gerrymandered to decrease the effectiveness of their vote.
They have the least Senate representation coming from big urban states.
Winning the popular vote used to be the norm of winning the Presidency. They were under at the time to a President that lost by over 2%...

They are getting screwed at the ballot box... When majority people are continuously under represented and are answering to a ruling class they get pissed...

I repeat create the amendment and get it passed. There is no Court or group of Judges you can bribe to change the Constitution.

Turning to the popular vote would be the end of the United States as we know it. All the far-left, liberal political machines would have to do is win the votes in cities like New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Boston, Detroit. All of the aforementioned cities plus many more are populated by a vast majority Liberal nut cases. Under those conditions, there would never again be an elected conservative president. The middle of American, which is more conservative would never again be a factor in electing a president. Liberals, stick that idea up your ear!

Right now, a man that has never won the popular vote and never will has a chance to cobble together enough EC votes to return the the WH where he would continue to try to destroy our country. That is what minority rules does for you.
