Lying to ATF on gun-purchase form yields few prosecutions, data shows

Isn’t that usually when there were other crimes involved as well, such as the gun being used in a crime?

No.

It doesn't matter now, anyway. The gun control debate in this country is over, because your side surrendered it on Sunday.

No Democrat will be able to bring a gun control measure before the legislation ever again without being laughed out of the room by everyone who remembers when President Joe Biden told the world that gun crimes don't count.

Why “no”? What is your rationale for treating this differently? (I think you are overblowing the effect of this by attempting to hang the validity all gun control law on the refusal to prosecute what is essentially a paperwork crime differently than the norm).

Had he not won, he probably would have been sentenced to prison for...... "bookkeeping".
Highly unlikely, that is just a fabrication from the always-the-victim MAGA supporters. Had something like that occurred he would have grounds for a successful appeal since I believe typical sentences for first time offenses like this would just be a fine.

Your president just told the entire world that he doesn't consider lying on a federal background check form, illegally purchasing a gun, and illegally possessing a gun to be crimes worth prosecuting.

Do you really think we didn't notice that?

No. He didn’t. I’m no big fan of his, but I do get the rationale. Why should Hunter Biden be treated differently than anyone else who did this exact thing? You are essentially demanding he be made an example of because…well…he’s Hunter Biden.

Is that really Justice?

Do you really think we didn't notice that?
I expect the MAGAverse to distort these things into bizarre contortions.

The whole world watched the show, and you can`t undo that. 'If you don`t fight like hell you`re not going to have a country anymore" was said by whom? I`ll give you a hint. It wasn`t Hillary Clinton. BTW, is she still locked up at Leavenworth? Yes, this is ridicule because I never could resist such an easy target.
The democrats told their voters to “fight” too. What a pathetic attempt by you

Which of those 2 have 37 felony Convictions? Which of them was fined $2 million dollars for robbing a cancer charity? Which one brought in illegal immigrants to build his golf course?
Which one told a national tv audience that he wants to screw his own daughter? My final question: How many would he have to rape and murder in the middle of 5th Ave. for you to search for a Cult Deprogramming institution in order to leave him? My principles taught me right from wrong as a toddler. Obviously, you have none.
You appear unhinged and full of misinformation talking points. You’re probably just angry you lost the election.

Six pages? Where? The ATF form is two simple pages. Do we excuse the president's son because WAPO says there are "few" prosecutions?

Form 4473 — the Firearm Transaction Record — is a six-page document that must be filled out whenever someone buys a firearm from a licensed firearm dealer.

The form asks questions including whether the person buying the gun is a felon, whether the person is a fugitive from justice or convicted of domestic abuse, whether the person is addicted to drugs and whether the person is the actual buyer of the firearm.
This tweet by ATF’s Houston office led a swarm of Twitter users to ask why the bureau didn’t charge Hunter Biden, the president’s son, for allegedly lying on Form 4473 when he purchased a handgun in October 2018. The controversy prompted us to request statistics from the Justice Department to determine whether someone falsely filling out the form faced much of a risk of prosecution.

It took months to obtain the data. The answer, it turns out, is no.

The statistics are newly relevant as Congress discusses how to strengthen gun laws in the wake of high-profile mass shootings. This is a prime illustration of how, for a variety of reasons including prosecutorial choices, existing laws are not always rigorously or consistently enforced.

The Facts

Starting with the National Firearms Act of 1938, Congress has sought to limit gun purchases by certain individuals such as fugitives and people convicted of a felony. After high-profile assassinations and the occupation of the California Capitol by armed Black Panthers, President Lyndon B. Johnson urged passage of the Gun Control Act of 1968, which among other things expanded the list of prohibited people to include someone who is “an unlawful user of or addicted to marijuana or any depressant or stimulant drug.”

The reason for adding drug users to the list is a bit obscure, according to experts we consulted. Johnson did not mention the issue in his speech calling for a new gun-control law or in his remarks when signing the bill. But the mid-1960s witnessed the rise of counterculture, with its abundant drug use, while marijuana at the time was often believed by law enforcement to be the drug of choice for people of color.
The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993, ushered into law by then-Sen. Joe Biden, at the time chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made Form 4473 a key part of background checks for gun purchases mandated by the law.

Lying on the form is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. For being a user of unlawful drugs in possession of a firearm, the punishment is up to five years.

So there you have it! This is the article written to try and vindicate Hunter Biden from prosecution.

But as the Left runs to vindicate Hunter Biden, they overlook the obvious which is, what good are the gun laws we have today if virtually none of the laws regarding gun registration are observed?

Essentially, the Left is arguing this:

1. Gun laws are silly and not worth observing.

2. Since most law breakers are not sent to jail, why send Hunter?

The problem here is, Joe Biden did not even let the judge rule in the case, so we will never know what penalty, if any, would have befallen Hunter. But at least democrats have basically admitted that gun laws are stupid and need removed if they are continued to be ignored.

But my guess is, most of the laws on the books are there ONLY to put into effect if certain people those in power want put in jail. The powers that be have already shown us they don't care about rampant crime on the streets, as laws on illegal immigration are also ignored. No, those laws are only in place to use if someone threatens the political power of the elites, then all of a sudden, our laws are worthwhile and need enforced.
This is true. If Hunter had not been the President's son, it is unlikely any of us would know anything about the laptop, the gun offense, any of it.

Initially I sympathized with Biden as I in all good conscience cannot say I would not have pardoned my son if I had the ower to do so. Certainly for so minor an offense.

But the more I've learned since that initial response I have changed my mind. If Biden had just pardoned the gun crime I wouldn't have been upset with that. But what was done was obviously much more and I am not okay with that. Not only does it make a mockery of justice, it sets a terrible precedent.

It does not protect Hunter from consequences of committing perjury from this time on though.

How about claiming your home is worth more than the county assesed taxable value…the MARKET VALUE.

That is what Trump is being charged with in NYC.

How often is that prosecuted?
Worth 20% more or even 30% or 40% more, but claiming 200% or 300% more is not an accident or market correction.

ATF should have been disbanded when prohibition was repealed. :rolleyes-41:

Yes. You follow the norm.

Prosecutions came when the gun is used in a crime....otherwise it is a Mulligan, with penalties and retribution not prison related on first time offenses.

Americans don't say bloody.

Nearly all homes in the USA have a market value significantly higher than the county assessed TAXABLE value.

Even cult fucks are not so retarded they don’t get this.

As I said, the gun charges were the least of Biden's worries, because that was the least of Hunter's crimes.

I'm not feelin' it, brah. :nono:
Not to say that isn't so, but I damn sure ain't feelin' it.
Somehow it's only supposed to go up 1-3% I think and they added 30K this year.
(to the original assesssed value) That doesn't happen, wtf?!
No, that was supposed to stay the same. Something's very off.

IF anything was bipartisan anymore, I'd think that buying ammo or guns by people who use recreational or medical weed legally would fit the bill. lol

As I said, the gun charges were the least of Biden's worries, because that was the least of Hunter's crimes.
Which is why Hunter was tried on the gun crime of course so the people would believe 'no one is above the law' when they could have gone after much more serious crimes even bordering on or possibly meeting the definition of treason.

Biden knew the witch hunt against Hunter would only intensify under Trump
He cut it off
The Witch hunt for crimes Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to?

Ole' stumblebum doesn't want any investigation to begin which is why he preemptively pardoned the boy for any crime he committed extending back to 2014 and his shenigans at Burismsa.
