Any specific enivronmental (global) issues anyone is concerned about? Looking for research topic, have end of semester brain drain, and I'm looking for ideas.

I hate to say this, but I've done papers on both those topics.

I'm looking for something along the lines of degragation due to globalization, industry specific if possible.

Fish and shrimp farming?

How about deforestation?

I think the 1st world is doing reasonably well here,
but the 2nd (eg Russia) and 3rd (ie Latin America, Asia, and Africa)
are in some areas suffering alarming losses.

Not bad. What western organization is invovled in gold mining in Indonesia?

From what I understand, Canadian companies are the biggest.

Another good topic might be urban sprawl in desert communities. Not necessarily from the water standpoint since you have already covered that, but air pollution!

I think I'll look into your gold mining suggestion. I need to be specific with respect to industry, or better put, the identity of the "capatialist" evil doer.

How about pharmaceutical companies and Dr.s overdosing everyone on antibiotics thus creating super germs that are drug resistant?

How about industrial pollution being spread to other regions through upper atmosphere wind flow, combined with lower atmosphere pressure systems?

Sounds like an Alberta Clipper, minus the pollution and high pressure system. :D

Hummm...don't think so, not sure..

I'm talking yearly patterns...Repeats, though months on end.

Too detailed for 1000 words. I think I'll stick with the Canadain gold mining co, see if I can't dig up some dirt on them.

I may have been mistaken about the Canadian connection. I know that Bre-X was involved at one point, but they may have backed out.

Here are some stories though:
