Lets talk about Tariffs and what they mean to you!

Tariffs may pale in comparison to the external revenue service

You do need to do more research before you open your mouth to put your foot in

China's percentage of trade with U.S. had dropped from 16% to 8% since the tariffs began. China's trade with Russia has increased 19% over the same period of time. China's trade with Europe has also increased. We (the U.S.) are not as important to China as it was in the past. That pattern will continue and increase even more if Trump raises tariffs even more

You and many other Democrats severely underestimate the power of the US consumer. Without the US consumer, China would be in severe trouble. They are already on unsure economic footing. They are in no position to effectively retaliate. If they took Taiwan, that calculus could change.

You can rationalize it any way you want but less purchases by the public means a slow down on the economy. That is Economy 101 information

And flooding the economy with printed money increases inflation. Where have you been for the last 4 years?

Interest rates won’t fall as fast as expected if tariffs stoke inflation, UBS CEO says

An expected decline in interest rates could be stalled if the prospective tariffs of Donald Trump’s second White House administration bleed into markets and shore up inflation, UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti warned Tuesday.

“Something that I’ve been saying for a while, inflation is much more sticky than we have been saying,” he told CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin. “The [truth] of the matter is that we need to see also how tariffs will play a role in inflation.”

Increasing wages does not contribute to inflation as many tell us they do.

American Rescue plan. Read up. It increased inflation in the US. The US core inflation was higher than many other countries because of the 1.9 trillion dollar plan.

How did the plan raise wages? I think our labor pool right now is too big. As it goes down employers will have to compete harder for workers, a good thing.

Do you mean to say that they did not print money during the Trump years? More than during the past 4 years?

What does you post prove? That the U.S. Cannot be negatively affected?

15% in 15 months under Biden.

Anyone that regularly shops at Wal-Mart or uses Amazon is an anti-American PoS.

Both of these global corporations were in on the scamdemic to destroy small & family owned businesses.
Yes your right killing small retail,
on the other side you have a hard time getting a carpenter or a electrician or your plumbing fixed.
everyone wants to be rich, not just have a good job.

It means we have a lot of leverage. We need to negotiate from a position of strength, unlike what we have done the last 4 years.

You mean to say that making things tougher for our suppliers will make them sell more to us? not look elsewhere?

You mean to say that making products more expensive to Americans will help us personally?

China doesn't want them to look elsewhere. What don't you understand?

???
WE are the one raising tariffs on China, making it more expensive for them to sell to us. The people that pay for that are us (the consumer). It does makie China look elsewhere for clients. Last time around when tariffs occurred, they increased their sales to Russia from 9% to 16%.

Do you see any win for us here?

One thing FOR SURE.We (the people)lose as every increase is passed on to US>

Russia have as much money as they did last time?

China doesn't want to look elsewhere but they absolutely will, which is precisely what they did last time.

You are assuming that we will not look elsewhere for these goods and that some American goods would not become more attractive for the same or even less money. China is already losing business to Taiwan and losing more daily. The bottom line is that China needs us more than we need them, particularly in the long term. In the short term, where do you think China would get the advanced chips they buy from Nvidia and others? They are very much dependent on the US for that and these chips are an absolute must have for them. Without them, they fall far behind in the AI race.

By imposing or threatening to impose tariffs, Trump is likely trying to get them to the table to discuss many options that will ultimately benefit the US. For example, we have a LOT of natural gas and oil. Unlike Biden, Trump will encourage this exploration. China can be a very large customer. They need it and we have it. They could agree to buy larger quantities than they already do from the US.
