You know there was a trial, right? With trump having every opportunity to defend himself. The jury weighed the evidence against trump's defense and voted to convict.

The appeal is based on trump claiming the case should be retroactively moved to a federal court based on the allowance that federal officers can request a trial in one. But he wasn't a federal officer when he committed the crimes he was convicted for. So the appeal is based on a long shot loophole, not his innocence.
