Shenandoah County Sheriff Timothy Carter made the apology to Leon K. McCray Sr. of Woodstock Friday, announcing hate crime and assault charges against the five people involved and saying a weapons charge against the pastor would be dropped.

McCray described the events leading to his arrest in a sermon to parishioners at Lighthouse Church & Marketplace Ministries International.

He said he was visiting an apartment he owns in Edinburg on June 1 when he noticed a man and a woman dragging a refrigerator from another property into his dumpster, and they became irate when he asked them to leave.

I usually side with the CCW holder in stories like this, but I'm confused about how it's reported.

If this Pastor had a valid CCW license, what did they arrest him for? He did nothing wrong. I can't find exactly what charge they used in order to justify an arrest.

Something is missing here. He brandished a legal gun, used it because he had every reason to believe he was in jeopardy of serious bodily harm or death, and he was the one who called the police to report it.

Police are usually very careful when making an arrest because the city (or in this case, the county) would be liable for a false arrest.
