"Britain’s MI5 intelligence service reports that al-Qaida is recruiting female suicide bombers who have had explosives surgically implanted in their breasts. Male suicide bombers are undergoing similar surgeries; but instead of the breast area, the explosives are implanted in the buttocks or appendix areas.

MI5 agents report that Muslim doctors who were trained at leading UK teaching hospitals are returning to their native countries to perform surgeries that involve inserting plastic implants containing PETN (pentaerythritol Tetrabitrate) explosives into women’s breasts and men’s bodies.

PETN was used by British shoe-bomber, Richard Reid, who tried unsuccessfully to blow up an American airliner in December 2001.

Jonathan Evans, head of MI5, warns that the body-bombers pose a serious threat to security because they can circumvent current methods of detection. Surgeons from the UK’s National Health Service agree that plastic implants are “virtually impossible to detect by the usual airport scanning machines.”

“Given that the explosive would be inserted in a sealed plastic sachet, and would be a small amount, would make it all the more impossible to spot it with the usual body scanner,” NHS surgeons said."

Surgical Implants Filled with Explosives Are Undetectable in Suicide Bombers

Had the correct procedures been in place for the crotch bomber, he would have been unable to board the plane. Body scanners would not have helped in that case either.

There have been cases of TSA people arrested because they were to frisky with their frisking. This just gives one more excuse.

What do you think would have been the correct procedures?

Great. What next? Exploratory surgery before flight?

Crazy idea, how about we start profiling? Those who do manage to attempt terror get executed, wrapped in bacon and sent back to their country of origin.

I think we should have taken it very VERY seriously when the man's father contacted the embassy about him. If the man's father, in a country that take family quite seriously, says something like that, one ought to at least pay a little attention.

In hindsight, I suppose the GOV might get that now.....

Dogs can handle that one too.
Good point, but profiling could narrow down the ones the dogs could help to further single out.

Profiling can mean even an unwillingness to make willing eye contact, or answer questions without certain signals...etc. Profiling by El Al airlines relies on a system of those kinds of signals.

Because we all know terrorists are only Muslim.

The man had more red flags around him than a may day parade.
1) As Contessa said, He got reported from Nigeria
2) One way ticket
3) No Baggage
4) traveling alone on a tourist visa
There were other things that will get me in trouble
muslim between the ages of 16 and 35

There were four really good stop signs on the guy before he even got to check in. Israel does unabashed profiling. He must have had a dozen behavioral quirks that should have set off alarm bells.

This really would not have been stopped by scanners, but it should have been stopped by procedures already in place.

Well, I guess we will see the screeners being a lot more dilligent in their "searches"

And Mutallab paid cash for the $2831 ticket from Lagos, Nigeria, to Detroit via Amsterdam.....[And]...checked into his flight with only a small carry-on bag, which should have been even another red flag.

In this situation there appears to have been AN AVOIDANCE, of any kind of profiling in any way whatsoever!
