"Former Texas House candidate among 15 charged in vote harvesting investigation
FRIO COUNTY, Tex. (KGNS) - Fifteen people, including a former Texas House candidate and local officials, have been charged as part of a state-led vote harvesting investigation, according to KSAT.
KSAT reports that seven suspects turned themselves in to the Frio County Jail on Wednesday, July 2, following indictments handed down Monday, June 30. The investigation, led by the Texas Attorney General’s Office and the 81st Judicial District Attorney’s Office, has resulted in arrests or indictments of multiple public figures in Frio County and surrounding areas.
District Attorney Audrey Gossett Louis told KSAT the following people were indicted this week:
- Juan Manuel Medina, former Bexar County Democratic Party Chair and former San Antonio mayoral candidate, two counts of vote harvesting
- Petra Davina Trevino, former Pearsall Mayor — one count of vote harvesting
- Inelda Rodriguez, former Dilley council member — three counts of vote harvesting
- Mary Ann Obregon, former Dilley Mayor — two counts of vote harvesting
- Rachel Leal — one count of vote harvesting
- Cecilia Castellano, former Texas House candidate — two counts of vote harvesting
- Susanna Flores Carrizales — one count of vote harvesting
- Raul Carrizales III, Frio County Precinct 3 Commissioner — one count of vote harvesting
- Maricela Garcia Benavides, Pearsall ISD Board Secretary — one count of vote harvesting
According to KSAT, Medina and Rodriguez have not yet been booked but plan to turn themselves in soon."
