and this is said by a Ukrainian living in proper Ukraine (though Kiev has always been a pure Russian city, seluki or Ukrainian rednecks, the bearers of Ukrainian culture, were always snubbed by civilized urban Ukrainians, bearers of higher Russian culture). Most of that is in the past, unfortunately (with the exception of IT). The Ukrainian society has degraded significantly in the last 30 years.
Space and aircraft industries have passed the point of no return and can hardly be saved in the middle-term perspective.
The higher education has turned into a joke and can't provide enough specialists of desirable level (despite the vast number of students).
The one who was 7 years old when USSR collapsed and has no idea of what life and Ukraine were like within USSR. He also has not been to Russia.
So, we may take him as a perfect example of a Ukrainian whose perception of the EU, Russia and Ukraine itself was formed by Ukrainian propaganda and general mood of Ukrainian society.
And while he is still hostile to Russia and snubs Russia, for some obscured reasons viewing it as some worse version of Ukraine of 90s, but he demonstrates extreme scepticism to Ukraine itself.
And I tend to think such perception is a mass one. Meaning Ukraine in its attempt of independence led itself into a dead end, after which collapse of the state follows.
