The family units were stronger in that era. Modernization and the programming of the masses through crap from the media and public schrewl systems has destroyed many family units and the unity of the family structures. Families most generally took care of family members. Today with socialism and commercialism on the rise a lot of younger people seem to think that the state should take care of family member needs. How many people actually take care of their older family members now? And how many think it is too much of an inconvenience so they just send them off to a nursing home or disregard the needs of elderly family members? Our family took care of their own elderly for as long as physically possible. My one grand she got too bad to watch over for her last year but by then she was almost a hundred years old and had medical needs that required a full time nursing staff. The rest stayed with family and provisions were made to help make them feel useful, needed, comfortable and wanted. The cohesion of family units has been being destroyed for many years.

Well, no actually it is not. I knew lots of racist, both black and white, when I was in the Corps and they choose to join knowing they would be working closely with members of the group they were biased against.
