In the letter from Patel's lawyer in the OP link, he says she appeared on MSNBC on December 2 and said Patel would "lie about intelligence" and would "lie about making things up on operations".

As has been covered in this topic, Patel did that and almost cost the lives of SEAL Team 6.

Patel is a public figure, and he is fair game when it comes to detractors. Right wingers from Limbaugh to Carlson to Hannity have made their fortunes on remarks about public figures. It seems that Patel is as thin skinned as trump, and his threat based on nothing more than his hurt feelings is a good indication of the petty way he could be expected to run the FBI.
