Just had whiskey for the first time

Straight whiskey on an empty stomach will cure a bad case of acid reflux. It will burn as it goes down but it will work. I rarely have an alcoholic drink myself, my family were heavy drinkers, Jim Beam, Budweiser, Miller ,Canadian Mist, Vodka cocktails

I've heard of red pepper combatting heartburn (and it does) but whiskey?

Yes, prescribed by my doctor. It was straight Scotch and like I say It cleared it right up.

Wish my mom had known about that. Her insurance didn't cover the medication that worked for her and she was always scrounging around doctors' offices for samples.

I used to be a beer guy. I sold beer for a living for awhile, and really got into some of the high quality craft stuff.

Then I got into wines. Love wine. That was my drink of choice for a long time.

But then I really got into liquors.

First liquor I tried was cognac. I thought it tasted like something that had been run through a carburetor. But I kept trying it, and acquired a taste for it. Kelt's my favorite.

About a decade ago, I was over at a friend's house and he cracked opened a bottle of Glenfiddich. That was my first taste of fine whisky. I really started getting into scotch. For a long time, scotch was my go-to drink.

Then, I was having dinner with someone in a restaurant in Boston, and the guy paying for the dinner suggested we try bourbon. So I looked on the menu and ordered an EH Taylor Small Batch. Since then, even though I like all good quality whiskies, I'm really a bourbon guy.

Today, I own 81 bottles of bourbon, 29 bottles of American rye, 6 bottles of American single malts and whiskies, 43 bottles of scotch, and 20 bottles of Irish, Canadian, Indian and Taiwanese whiskies.

I had cognac once at very high end restaurant at the end of a very high end meal, and I really liked it. So sometime later, at the New Hampshire liquor outlet, I bought a bottle. It was awful.

I don't know what they served me that night, but it definitely pays to pay attention to the name.

I wouldn't drink if the only options were low-quality booze.

I'm not fan of wine, but my stepbrother's s.o. had wealthy family in France with a winery. He brought a bottle of their white for Easter dinner one year, and it was the best damned wine I've ever had, by miles. It had just a wee bit of sparkle, which he said occurred naturally. I asked where I could buy some. He said Nowhere. The French keep their best wine for themselves

Whenever I get an inkling I am coming down with some illness, I take a shot and 9 times out of ten it cures it.

Totally agree.

I haven't purchased a bottle of French wine I liked here in the States. But when we were in France, the wine was fantastic! Even the house wine for €5 was miles better than the coke for €3!

If you want to try a good whiskey I suggest a good 18 year old minimum single malt. My regular drinkin whiskey is an 18 year Macallan.

I'm fond of glenfiddich 15.

Scotch snobs are a dime a dozen. I thought we were talkin about Kentucky bourbon
