Nutbags finally have something real about liberals that they can make fun of. Yes....most liberal Americans...along with most thinking Americans of all political stripes....thought that Trump would be knocked out of the race many, many times.

True. We thought his ridiculous comments, childish nature and lack of any real policy would spell his defeat long ago.

We were wrong.....over and over again. We truly overestimated the ability of the GOP base to discern fact from fiction. We thought the base would balk at a guy who repeatedly pushes conspiracy theories and opt for a candidate who could control his or her impulses.

Yes, we were very wrong. I did not think that the rational people in the GOP would allow a two bit demagogue to take over their party. I did not realize that their grip on reality was so weak, and that Bill Buckley's predictions of the effect of the GOP chasing the fringe vote would come to this. I knew he had it from the minute he first showed a sign of popularity. The GOP base, first and foremost, is a bunch of xenophobic maniacs. You have to understand that. It's not religious fundies, it's not economic conservatives, it's not capitalists, etc. It's xenophobic rubes who want a daddy figure to protect them from scary outsiders and uncomfortable ideas. Trump knows this, and he's played them like a fiddle. If he's elected President, nobody has ANY idea what he'll actually do, because he doesn't have to tell them!

Will he have to tell them in the general election? Will he have to become realistic? IMO he doesn't think he needs to. And honestly, neither am I.

But hey, at least it's way better than Cruz
