The Tory Party is encouraging racism. Many people are short of even food to eat. That is absolute poverty. We thought we had got rid of this a hundred years ago. More and more working people need to get to food banks to survive. Whatever turns you on but people are more successful working together.

I belonged to a union for a few months back in the day, and they did nothing for me. I left the employment ASAP for a scab job.

Unions are good for those who are mobbed up and are looking for a no-show or no-work job, and they certainly help bartenders at local Italian clubs who make their livings from tips from the business agents and crooked lawyers that are on Big Labor's payroll.

Some people may be able to quit and indeed workers are willing to go without wages for a while when on strike but for many this would mean an even worse standard of living at least for the short term and one they cannot guarantee will not be long term. In some ways you appear to be talking about someone working for a very small firm where the situation is somewhat different and the boss may even know you. There are just so many things to take into consideration not least that in a non union world with plenty of people needing a job there will be plenty of desperate people willing to take your job and that is all the employer is interested in.

Again here you appear to be talking about Jo Bloggs down the road who will be employing people they know. The reality is that many of our employers now are involved in Monopolies who do not care one bit about their workers. They want the cheapest who can do the job and hence give them the most money. Unless there is full employment the Employer can feel safe letting people go knowing full well there is a cheaper worker round the corner.

You ought to do some research on the standard of living of Americans during the period from the 50-80's when many belonged to Unions although with limited power in the US. However during this time workers standard of living rose - during that time it was true that if a person was prepared to work hard they could provide an increasing good standard of living to their family. (If they were white that is) After the 80's when most people for whatever reason left Unions till now the standard of living for the working class - I think you sometimes call them middle class workers has gone way down as it has in the UK....and who has made the money? well of course those who people such as yourself are always supporting - the 0.1% The US is now much more unequal than it was in the 70's and to be frank the American Dream is over.
