John Boehner and Republicans want YOU to pick up BP's Tab

You people need to stop defending BP. Give it up! Boehner even distanced himself from using tax money for the cleanup.

But judging from your response, if he had said to stuff the well hole with the bodies of dead and dying gulf birds, you guys would have thought up some great reasons to defend him. You are SO predictable. You are told the Republican position and then you rationalize how to defend it, even if it makes no sense.

STOP WATCHING FOX AND GROW A BRAIN!

The government gave you a license to drive a vehicle, so if on the way to work after a late night at the tavern you plow into a group of schoolkids, the government should share the responsibility?

I knew this thread would be fertile ground to pick off pea brains...:lol::lol:

PatekPhilippe are you for less regulations? Righty's, you lose on this one. NO more off shore drilling and more regulations for at the very least, SAFETY. Ask those miners family's.

Miners?
Loser.

So I guess we should stop the crab fishing off the coast of Alaska. Many men lose their lives each season.

There are many careers that come with danger. Firemen, Policemen.....CONSTRUCTION!!!!!!!!!!

But guess what. This is America. Freedom of choice. They know the dangers of their careers. They opt to take the job knowing dam well the dangers.

You fell for the "we need to make it safe" rhetoric you loser.

I bet more men die crab fishing a year than those that died in the last 50 years oil drilling.

I'm not so certain you are on the same page as he is... um, that is probably a good thing! I got the impression he meant safety for the rest of us rather than the drillers, but I could be wrong.

In those professions you mention, they risk their lives but rarely do they threaten the safety of others around them.

Listen........some of those idiots in Congress were actually CONSIDERING blowing a nuke in the Gulf to close the leak.

Only trouble is...........the shoreline is a scant 43 miles away, which would result in a tsunami going halfway across New Orleans.

No. Bombing the oil well is a bad idea.

You actually believe that? Wow, you need more help than I thought.

Government regulations are a big part of what got us here to begin with. I'm not saying don't regulate, but don't make regulations that make it next to impossible to stop a leak like we have now. Do you honestly think that if the government hadn't regulated drilling to make it so that it has to be done in 5,000 feet of water and drilling was done in shallower water that there would be this much trouble getting the problem fixed?

How about we regulate drilling in SAFER DEPTHS? Let's regulate the hell out of drillers, but let's do in in a manageable depth so that when something goes wrong we can actually FIX THE PROBLEM.

I know that would be too simple for a liberal mind to wrap itself around.

Rick

The response to that would be "Fine, but not in my backyard!" and me living near the mouth of Tampa Bay, I'm not so certain, I would not be one of those saying "fine, but not in my backyard!" :eusa_whistle:

He was referring to the WVA miners who lost their lives because the mine was a non-union mine and our government had very little oversight of the safety precuations being taken by the mining company.

And I was trying to justify that last line with my response as well. Couldn't do it, so I ignored it.

But it is probably still a good thing if you are not on the same page as him. ;)

Funny...I saw a discussion on the governments response to the whole oil disaster and guess what....Americans are by a large margin very disastisfied with the governments response. This is called "blowback". You left wing ass holes were so fond of that term...until you all became a victim of your own inherent stupidity. You all can ***** and complain, point fingers but the oil is still flowing into the Gulf.

Sorry Patek, this is not even close to the phenomenon called "Blowback."

WRONG!!!..Yes it is.....

Blowback is the espionage term for the violent, unintended consequences of a covert operation that are suffered by the civil population of the aggressor government.

Okay... I guess that's, well, sorta... Yeah not even in the ballpark.

There's also the consideration of what is the proper role of government. Doggie the Bubble Mod often confuses conservative belief in limited government with anarchical lack of government.

It is proper for the government to deal with large scale disasters which are beyond the scope of a local / state community. The U.S. government has assets (usually military related) which can serve a dual purpose for disaster mitigation. We've paid for them - why not use them, especially when TAXES HAVE BEEN COLLECTED to cover such incidents.

What exactly should the military do to "plug the hole"?

Knowing the "conservatives" they will want us to drop a shitload of bombs on it. That appears to be their answer for most problems...

Yeah, this is certainly a tough one for them... Shit how do we blame the Democrats for this... Okay we can't say it was taxes... Can't say it was "Socialism..." Certainly can't claim "Over regulation..." Rush? Rush? What do we do, Rush?

So? The Gov't wants me to pick up the tab for everybody and everything.

Most conservatives here don't support a deepwater drilling moratorium, much less a ban.

Despite blather to the contrary.

I may have missed it, but has anyone mentioned the idiot Democrats who want a 6 month moratorium on off shore drilling, AND they want BP to pay the salaries of everyone who is laid off because of the moratorium? Jesus Christ they are dumb.

What you are overlooking is this fact. The U.S. government is responsible to a degree....we gave BP the license and approved their drilling plan without an adequate back up plan for a disaster....hence...where we are today.

The government gave you a license to drive a vehicle, so if on the way to work after a late night at the tavern you plow into a group of schoolkids, the government should share the responsibility?

I honestly thought that one was too easy.

I guess we should have anticipated that eventually the wingnuts would all end up on the side of BP. This has a tradition in wingnutville going back decades; when Rush Limbaugh was just starting out on national radio, one of his first big stands was to take the side of EXXON in the Valdez spill.

These people are programmed to take BP's side; it's in their political genes.

Actually, it's in their KNEES...

Whose taking BP's side?

Expecting the Feds to fulfill their proper responsibilities isn't taking BP's side. It's taking the side of the Americans who have paid taxes and have a rightful expectation for the Feds to use the oil disaster tax to contain and clean up the environmental damage which was the purpose of the tax in the first place.

Leave it to the Lefties to defend the government collecting taxes and then blowing the money on pork instead of the funding program for which it was collected.

So Americans should pay for the BP oil gusher?

boedicca, yeah I would also like to know how you feel. Even though Boehner has stepped away from the chance of us, the tax payers, paying a dime here, there are still come hanging on to that possibility.

Is that what you think? The drilling HAS to be done in 5,000 feet of water? And that was a "liberal" regulation?

How are liberals supposed to respect conservatives when conservatives say something so dumb?
