Joe Manchin is saving Democrats from themselves.

Manchin is being framed as the "spoiler" regarding the progressive agenda. But he's also saving the country from single party rule. And, less obviously, he's saving the Democrats from their own ambitions. Getting rid of the filibuster would kill an important protection for the minority party. Short-sighted leaders might not consider what it will be like when they are in the minority, but they should.

My impulse is to hope that this will be the beginning of a trend on both sides of the aisle that will ultimately bring us back to some freakin' sanity and make these people work together.
