Xi, like Putin, viewed Trump's divisiveness, incompetence, and hostile alienation from U.S. democratic allies as in their respective national interests. They have extensive personality profiles on Trump, of course, and his narcissistic pathology makes him easily manipulatable.Of course China prefers Biden to Trump!
Nevertheless, he has served his purpose for China, and it no longer views him as the asset he has been.

U.S. intelligence officials have concluded that Russia is targeting former vice president Joe Biden ahead of November’s election, the country’s top counterintelligence official announced Friday. But he also suggested that China is hoping President Donald Trump will lose.
“We assess that Russia is using a range of measures to primarily denigrate former Vice President Biden and what it sees as an anti-Russia ‘establishment,’” Bill Evanina, director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, said in a statement.
“This is consistent with Moscow’s public criticism of him when he was Vice President for his role in the Obama Administration’s policies on Ukraine and its support for the anti-Putin opposition inside Russia,” he added.
Evanina specifically accused Andrii Derkach, a Kremlin-linked Ukrainian lawmaker, of “spreading claims about corruption — including through publicizing leaked phone calls — to undermine” the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. Others linked to the Kremlin are aiming to boost Trump’s candidacy on social media and Russian television, Evanina said...
While Beijing “will continue to weigh the risks and benefits of aggressive action, its public rhetoric over the past few months has grown increasingly critical of the current Administration’s COVID-19 response, closure of China’s Houston Consulate, and actions on other issues," Evanina said.
