Tim... I guess you don't understand metaphors. I was referring to the authoritarians running Germany today as being Nazis in their behavior. They may not officially be Nazis, but their tactics are similar. You made all of that up.
not on postwar German chancellor was ever a Nazi.
Nazis are a banned party, something you object to.
Then you say this:
“Authoritarianism has always been a problem for a lot of Europe”
In defense of a Trump fool advocating right wing authoritarianism.
“and it's a lot easier to engage in when you pretend that you're doing it in the name of "tolerance."”
And offering this total inversion as an excuse for promoting authortarians.
of course, this is the same false premise on which Musk’s hypocritical claims about “freedom of speech”.
Of course, this kind of thinking is pure Trump.
The advocates of the rule of law and democracy are the real secret enemies.
And the way to combat them is to reject democracy and law and embrace the dictator.
Trump logic.
A real threat to democracy and the western world.
It’s obvious Timmy isn’t for freedom, he wants to shut everything downTim... I guess you don't understand metaphors. I was referring to the authoritarians running Germany today as being Nazis in their behavior. They may not officially be Nazis, but their tactics are similar.
And yes, I am against banning parties -- even Communist ones. The Nazi party should still be allowed in Germany just as it is here. However, we pushed Germany to ban it, and unfortunately, that opened the door to ban other parties there. The same would be true here if we started banning parties.
If you want to claim your society is free, then you have to allow all parties in your political system.
I hear a lot of people characterize Trump as "right wing authoritarian", but give me an example of this in policy by him. His focus right now is securing the border and cutting government waste. Border security is a core component of any stable government, and cutting waste is beneficial to the public.
Rule of law is morally neutral. So is democracy. While in power, Nazis had rule of law. In Indonesia, they have democracy, and the public in Aceh supports corporal punishment against homosexuality. So, you can say whatever you want about "rule of law" and "democracy", but what actually matters is what either of those actually supports in any given context.
Trump isn't a dictator, just like Bush wasn't. To be fair, Obama and Biden weren't dictators either. Drop the strawman already.
so do you support USAID giving millions to Chelsea Clinton? Fo lunches for kids in Africa when only a tiny % actually went to those kids.We spend less than 1% of our budget on foreign aid.
Your claims are false.
But your claims do reflect the uninformed nonsense that jingoistic American isolationists tell one another.
They are ancient, false stereotypes.
Lefties love the term "speaking truth to power".This administration is going to piss off the entire world, leaving us vulnerable to all kinds of attacks. This country made a mistake in November and yet the right-wingers here think they have done something great.
Vance Tells Europeans to Stop Shunning Parties Deemed Extreme
Vice President JD Vance told European leaders on Friday that their biggest security threat was not military aggression from Russia or China, or election meddling from Moscow. Rather, he said, it was what he called “the enemy within” — their own suppression of abortion protests and other forms of free speech and the sidelining of parties considered extremist.
The address stunned and silenced hundreds of attendees at the Munich Security Conference, a forum where top-level politicians, diplomats and analysts had gathered expecting to hear the Trump administration’s plans for ending the war in Ukraine and Europe’s defense against a rising Russian threat in the future.
Instead, the vice president offered what may be a preview of a new kind of trans-Atlantic relationship under Mr. Trump — one not built on postwar bonds of stability between allied governments, but rather on ties between once-fringe political parties that share a common approach to migration, identity and internet speech.
Mr. Vance singled out his German hosts, who will elect a new chancellor next weekend, and told them to drop their objections to working with a party that has often reveled in banned Nazi slogans and has been shunned from government as a result.
It was an extraordinary intervention in the domestic politics of a democratic American ally, and it brought some gasps in the hall.

We do not spend heavily on foreign aid. Dispite the widely held belief that we do.

It sucks to have one of isolationism’s most cherished myths exploded.
Oh,Neither your beloved fuhrer or his paymaster give one good damn about debt.
Exactly... a 20- or 30-year -long Moratorium on Immigration has become appropriate...legal immigrants have always been welcome here. emphasis on LEGAL Although there was a time in the 1920s when we stopped all immigration so that the ones already here could assimilate and become Americans. It may be time to revisit that policy.
Yawn, so nothingThey not only supported us in Afghanistan, and carried most of that burden after Bush lost interest and started ramping up for his war in Iraq.
Troops from European countries have fought alongside Americans in every war since WWII.

Stupid. But JD still has you beat.Insult Europe you say? OK. Let’s get started:
“Hey, Europe, you candy ass morons. Give free speech a try!”
Go ahead. Top that, JD.

Have a nice four years light weight...No, I got the isolationist crap right from your mouth.

Blah blah blahI don’t know where you get the idea that Germany didn’t ban political parties before now.
Trump is behaving exactly like a right wing authoritarian right now.
He is trying to sideline Congress so he can rule by decree.
He's claiming that he has the authority to unilaterally revoke the will of Congress, and spend and reallocate funds. He has no authority to do any of these things.
