Jason Crow's salient point is a lesson for us all.

Crow appeared on a recent episode of Bill Maher's show.

In the closing moments of the interview with him and the other guest he said something that resonated with me. To paraphrase, it was we all need to learn to be able to hold two truths about nuanced issues in our heads simultaneously. He made the remark in the context of a discussion about Israel's actions in Gaza. Defending his position as someone who does not support Hamas while being capable of recognizing the intentional starvation of children in Gaza is inhumane.

It's not a novel concept but one we could all benefit from implementing.

For example, I can acknowledge the reduction of illegal immigration at the southern border is a good thing for the country, while at the same time rejecting many of the policies creating that result.

I can agree in principle with Biden's efforts to make immigration policy more humane following trump 1.0, while seeing how it gave hope to people desperate to escape the conditions they lived under in their native countries. Causing more immigrants to come to the border. Putting more stress on an under funded, inefficient system for processing people.

I can agree, conceptually, with the desire for greater government efficiency, while disagreeing with the way the DOGE team conducted itself.

I can agree the $500M fine imposed on trump in the civil fraud case was excessive, at the same time as concurring with the finding of his guilt based on the evidence.

I can agree targeted tariffs are an effective tool in protecting US industries being harmed by the unfair practices of foreign countries, while observing blanket tariffs, both indiscriminately and illegally applied, are harmful to the country in multiple ways.

We could all benefit from less binary thinking and more nuance. Less polarization, more search for the middle ground.

Would any trump supporters like to provide an example of their own?

You are a disciple type figure of bureaucracy ----- vaccilation , inefficiciency and extreme tardiness .
Always the pedant and a pedantic time waster .
Never realising the implications of Einstein's remark that if you can always be right 70% of time in 70% of matters , you are a genius .

You were doubtless useful as a book keeper or bank clerk, but never a successful man of vision and action .

And like Uriah Heep --- ever slimy and patronising means being disliked into the bargain .
Pedant ,
You stand charged and found Guilty .

Off with his head .

Ahhhh..... You're talking about the age-old concept of compromise! Yes indeed a very rich and Noble cause! If only..... If only.

The vast majority of Americans oppose illegal immigration

Trump promised and is delivering
“Defending his position as someone who does not support Hamas while being capable of recognizing the intentional starvation of children in Gaza is inhumane.
[…]
For example, I can acknowledge the reduction of illegal immigration at the southern border is a good thing for the country, while at the same time rejecting many of the policies creating that result.”

Republicans are incapable of being reasonable and nuanced, of course, because it would deny them access to their partisan weapons of extremist disinformation and lies – denying them the ability to attack and vilify political opponents with those lies and disinformation; lies such as Palestinian civilians support Hamas and Israel is therefore justified in its genocide.

I see you are still struggling. Allow me to assist. I said........

"I can agree targeted tariffs are an effective tool in protecting US industries being harmed by the unfair practices of foreign countries, while observing blanket tariffs, both indiscriminately and illegally applied, are harmful to the country in multiple ways."

That isn't really agreeing with trump's policy on tariffs. It only recognizes tariffs, implemented in a measured way, can be an effective tool for protecting US industries being harmed by the unfair practices of foreign countries. The way trump is going about it is idiotic. Not to mention his lack of understanding about who pays for tariffs.

Does that help?
It does explain your flawed thinking.

What you happen to view as an implementation of tariffs “in a measured way” isn’t the standard at all.

Tariffs do act, in practical effect, as a tax on the end product consumers. But tariffs are simultaneously a part of statecraft and foreign policy.

You are permitted to harbor a view that the President’s manner of implementing the tariffs is “idiotic.” But that just your mere opinion. It isn’t a “fact,” and people are allowed to disagree with your mere opinion.

You also choose to ignore the domestic objective of imposing tariffs. They do tend to work as a tax on the end product consumers, but that only means that the imported materials or products are more expensive. Domestically obtained raw materials or finished products become relatively speaking less expensive. This means it can be expected to yield greater private employment in this land.

It is doubtful that anything will ever ”help” your comprehension, since you remain fully close minded.

I'm afraid you've been misinformed

Given a choice between believing the BBC, and other news outlets reporting how Israel has blocked food aid, and shot Palestinians trying to access what is available, or whoever the eff Liza Rosen is, I'm going with the news outlets.

No Proof Hamas Routinely Stole U.N. Aid, Israeli Military Officials Say

For nearly two years, Israel has accused Hamas of stealing aid provided by the United Nations and other international organizations. The government has used that claim as its main rationale for restricting food from entering Gaza.

But the Israeli military never found proof that the Palestinian militant group had systematically stolen aid from the United Nations, the biggest supplier of emergency assistance to Gaza for most of the war, according to two senior Israeli military officials and two other Israelis involved in the matter.

In fact, the Israeli military officials said, the U.N. aid delivery system, which Israel derided and undermined, was largely effective in providing food to Gaza’s desperate and hungry population.

Now, with hunger at crisis levels in the territory, Israel is coming under increased international pressure over its conduct of the war in Gaza and the humanitarian suffering it has brought. Doctors in the territory say that an increasing number of their patients are suffering from — and dying of — starvation.

Can I assume that means you are against trump's policy of refusing to approve new solar and wind projects?
I approve of Trump refusing to fund new solar and wind projects. That isn't the free market. If he is blocking private investers from such projects, I oppose that.
And that the government should discontinue subsidies to legacy energy companies?
Yes they should discontinue funding legacy energy companies. Let the free market instruct us as to which energy types are the most efficient.

Nuclear energy will have to have a lot of government involvement due to security concerns around potential nuclear weapons material, and potential weaponizing of the nuclear plants by terrorists. Since those concerns affect us all, and since nuclear energy has been such a boon to countries like France, I would be okay with subsidizing only the additional regulatory and security costs for a new nuclear plant.

But if private investers won't put up the rest, why should taxpayers? The market would have decided that nuclear isn't as efficient as other fuels.

Has Hamas used guerilla tactics leading to civilian deaths? Yes. Does that excuse Israel bombing areas mostly occupied by civilians and preventing international food aid from being allowed in to Gaza? No.

Stop getting your news from Hamas.
